' WHAT YOU GOT ON MY 40 HOMIE?! '

' MAN, I'M BROKE AS A JOKE! '

Jada

I looked over at the clock. 4:45 PM Shit! I rushed into the bathroom and took a quick shower.

"Hurry up Jada, we gonna be late!" Aubrey yelled, making me poke myself in the eye with eyeliner.

"Shoot!" I yelped in pain. My hair wasn't done and my makeup was messed up. We had ten minutes to make it to work and we had to rely on BART, which wouldn't get us there on time anyway.

I work at a middle-class restaurant in Sacramento. It was mom and pop based, but more and more celebrities began to come, so our boss, Steven, wanted to upgrade. Steven is like the father I never had. He genuinely cares for us like we were his own children. His wife, Marietta and his son, Daystar, also work there. Daystar is our bestfriend by force. Aubrey and I live together, in a one-bedroom efficiency in Stockton, California. My mother and I never repaired our broken relationship. My aunt, Aubrey's mother, passed away three years ago. So, in order to keep Aubrey sane, I volunteered to become her roommate and keep her safe.

"Did you text Daystar and tell him we'd be running late?" I asked her.

"Of course, which is why he volunteered to pick us up!" she shouted excitedly.

I rolled my eyes. I hated asking people for stuff, especially Daystar. Though he was my bestfriend, I didn't want him or anybody giving me anything. I'm not a charity case. I had a little time, so I just wiped the eyeliner off my eyes all together, and threw my hair up into a bun. I grabbed my apron and my psychology textbooks. That was just enough time until we heard Daystar's horn blasting.

I locked the door and sat in the passenger seat, while Aubrey sat in the back.

"Thanks Day, we really appreciate it!" I said.

"It's not a problem, y'all like family so whatever y'all need I got y'all. But Pops might be hot, this the second day in a row y'all been late, what's up wit y'all?" he asked.

"Nothin' man, school's been kicking our ass. I'm drained as hell." I admitted. I didn't necessarily go to a physical school, we took online classes. Nobody knew that, but who feels like commuting to school, work, and home all on the train? I think the fuck not, trick ass bitches!

I looked over at Day, who had on a bunch of chains and a bleached Metallica shirt. Why'd he put that on knowing he had to change?

I looked down at my cracked iPhone 6S screen and up popped a message from T-Mobile, saying my bill is past due. Fuck.

Bree 🦄💜

What are we gonna do? The bill is past due, we owe $207!

Ain't nothin' we can do but split it down the middle! Call and make a payment arrangement, I'll have my half on Friday.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. I hated doing this as well. T-Mobile be taxing man!

Daystar pulled into the back of the restaurant, parking. I immediately grabbed my things and rushed inside, through the back door. I was hoping to get past Steven, but my hopes were way too high.
