Chapter 4.
A blank expression came over her face.
"Parker, that's not funny."
I stopped in my track and looked at her.
"Seriously Gretchen ! Does it look like I'm kidding ?!"
Sighing, I started pacing the floor again.
"He knows are names" I said, nearly in a whisper.
"What?"
"He knows our names, Gretchen !"
"How?!"
" I don't know ! I'm scared !"
"Wait," Gretchen grabbed my arm stopping me from my constant walking back and forth.
"you went down that street after i specificlly told you not to, didnt you?"
I sighed, by now she had loosened her grip on my arm.
"Im sorry, I just thought it was a myth, I wanted to get here faster i-i jus-"
"Im calling the police."
She walked across the room and grabbed her phone on the marble counter. I snatched it out of her hand before she had the chance to unlock it.
"Gretchen no!"
"Kay we have to call someone ! We can't just let him stay here! He's a killer!"
"No !" I put her phone behind my back and out of her reach.
"Gretchen we can't call the cops. He let me live. Please don't."
She stopped arguing with me and sat down on the wooden kitchen chair in the corner of the room.
"What happened?"
I swallowed and gave her her phone back.
"I walked onto the street okay? I'm sorry. But I turned around I swear, and he was standing behind me."
Looking at me in doubt, she sighed and ran her fingers through her hair.
"You're sleeping over. You are not going back home, not tonight at least."
I knew she was right. I couldn't go home right now. Not after what had happened.

"It's warmer than I expected it to be."
" Yeah, it was only supposed to be 70."
I checked the time. 6:58. The bus was late again.
"It says it's 76 right now and later it will be 84"
Gretchen's eyes were glued to her weather app. I looked down at her red converse and sighed. Not because of her, but because I was annoyed the bus wasn't here yet. I wanted this day to end. I was deep in my thoughts when Gretchen frantically grabbed my arm.
"Ow Gretchen. God"
"Parker look !"
I glanced up to see David Sades standing in front of us. Gretchen had a crush on him since 7th grade. I smiled but Gretchen wasn't pleased.
"No Parker, over there ! There's someone standing in the trees ! Look!"
I shifted my eyes towards the side of the road to see what she was talking about, but instead I saw nothing but the tall trees hovering over the power lines. I turned to Gretchen, who was standing so close behind me that I can see the transparent freckles around her nose.
