I looked down at the shredded map in my hands. It was nearly impossible to navigate these wild lands and I had now no way to help me out of these woods. Stupid bloody raccoons if I had it in my heart to I would've killed the little thing. Coming into MY camp, eating MY food, and destroying MY things. It pissed me the hell off but of course me being myself I just shooed it away. I sighed heavily, abandoning the map, and beginning to trek up the steep hill. My only hope to find my way back to a colony is a good vantage point.

I breathed steadily as I navigated a path upwards. I'd been out in the thickets trying to map out the land for future colonist for months now. I no longer was intimidated by mother nature's harsh treatment towards us. I grabbed hold of a root sprouting from the ground using it to swing my legs up onto a fallen tree. I stood up carefully on the dead wood and found a branch above me. I jumped up and pulled myself onto it.

I was quite fortunate for how nature made such an easy path, it just proved no challenge. I looked up and was met with the face of a raccoon. I yelled out and fell backwards. I quickly reached out for anything to save me. My hand scraped across the wood as I found it probably giving a few splinters as well. My body jarred as my momentum ceased letting me groan out in pain as I hung there. I was now quite furious at this raccoon that refused to let me be. I angrily reached up with my other hand to help pull myself back on top of the branch. I looked at my right hand indeed finding several pieces of wood deep in my skin. It was already stinging quite a lot. I took out my knife and began to prod at the splinters. I bit my lip struggling to get the smaller ones free from my skin. I managed at least to release the biggest ones before hesitantly standing knowing I must continue forward. The raccoon still was in its perch above me. It's black beady eyes watched my every move curiously. I just ignored it as I now painfully climbed up the mountain.

As I reached the top my heart filled with determination causing me to climb even faster than before. When I felt grass sooth my skin I let out a sigh of relief. I pushed up my heavy body and pack onto the grassy plains. Instantly lying on my back to relax. It was quite a large cliff and I'm glad I pushed through all the way. I felt fur brush past my hand causing me to look down finding the raccoon. I groaned a bit but sat up from my position. I pet the top of its' head causing it to cutely coo and rub against my torso.

"Well aren't you a nice one?" I asked it knowing I wouldn't get an answer. He continued to cok and chirp as it climbed into my lap. It turned onto its back putting a smile on my face as I scratched it's belly.

"If only I could have you. No dog back in the colony is this loving."

I paused thinking only a moment.

"Oh! I've got some biscuits (cookies) with me!"

I pulled off my pack and rummaged through it. I found the biscuits wrapped in paper easily and handed one to the raccoon.

"Just don't steal from me again you cheeky bugger. You caused me a lot of problems."

The coon chirped sadly making it seem like it was sorry. My only reaction was to pet it's soft head again. I finally looked up to see that indeed I did have a vantage point although there would be no way for me to find my way back without my map. I was just too far into the thickets. I began to worry unsure of how I would survive long out here.

"I wish I could be you. At least then I'd know the land."

I groaned knowing I would have to set up my camp again and come up with a plan tomorrow. I hesitantly began to slowly build a makeshift shelter big enough for myself, and my furry guest.

I felt a hand pull on my shoulder roughly. My mind hazily awoke from its slumber to find a man in front of me. His brown hair had bits of gray and black in it, reminding me of my raccoon friend, and his blue eyes gazed at me harshly. I was unsure of what to do but I could tell I was at least pinned down by him. What of he's a native? I began to struggle under his grip trying my best to pull myself free. He just watched me calmly while I thrashed around under him.

"Let me go! Get off of me!" I uselessly screamed at him hoping he'd listen. It was futile though as he remained unmoved by my actions. After the man had decided I was calm enough he picked me up off the ground but still kept a tight hold on me. He forced me along with him towards an unknown destination. What unsettled me more was that I hadn't seen the little raccoon I had began to love.
"You d-didn't kill him did you?"

I felt like the man would know i was referring to the coon, but I only received a huff of air and another push. I looked up at the starry night sky trying to pretend I was somewhere else, anywhere else...

I jumped awake at the sound of a stick breaking. I found myself in the arms of the man being carried to an unknown destination. I sighed disappointingly that I wasn't in my cabin listening to my fire cracking sticks instead. I was suddenly placed down to stand on my own and I gave the man a confused look. He pointed behind me so I turned to see that he had brought me back to the colony. I felt a smile on my face and I turned back excitedly to thank him, but he had already vanished. I looked out into the trees only being able to barely make out the face of a familiar bandit. My friend, the raccoon man.
