Bella's POV
I've been working underneath the Volturi kings for about 20 years now, and as Aro said, time really does fly for vampires. It took less than a year to gain Aros's trust in me, and I soon proved myself. I became one of the most dangerous, ruthless, and special members of the Volturi Guard, the ones tasked to carry out the King's bidding as well as protection. The first month of my being here Aro was very strict towards me, any step without his permission resulted in a painful punishment. Though, as it happens, I learned how to disconnect myself during those punishment episodes. Surprisingly, Aro's lessons taught me that pain means very little to vampires. Plus, since I got good at listening I rarely got punished now. I was Aros's favorite pet, he often called me aside just to chat, it was quite funny, how trusting he'd become.
Most of the conversations we had considered how to deal with vampires that went rampant, breaking rules, or causing destruction; practically anything that would draw the human's attention. At times he even asked for my opinion, almost as if he were testing me.
Each of us on the Volturi Guard would go out, deal with the troublesome vampires, and report back. During our travels, if we found any information worthy of Aro, such as talk against the Volturi, we would call in with the report and wait for further instructions.
It was an odd way of living, all of us being assassins in a sense, but in some sick way, I enjoyed it.
To the present, my current assignment is based in my old hometown, Forks. Apparently, there were rumors of a vampire building an armory with the neighboring vampires. It was troublesome, the Volturi only allows Covens to reach a certain number of members dispatching them once they became too large. An army was one of those instances where the Guard would be sent out to find the leader, dispose of him, and offer any that flea an option to 'work' off the debt with the Volturi or suffer death.
The catcher for me was that if I completed this assignment, and returned with 'flying colors' then Aro would allow me some leeway. I was traditionally kept at the castle unless on an assignment, and even then one of the twins would follow me. However, if I did this Aro promised me some freedom, allowing me to roam around Italy. It was small, but it was something I desired. I was tired of being stuck in one area, greeting the same people every day, and just going through the motions. I could not last another 60 years doing nothing but sitting in a room.
So, here I was, running towards Forks. My attire was a black cloak with the Volturi symbol on the chest, a sword decorated my hip, and armor underneath. Apparently, witches do exist in this world, and the Volturi have one under their wing. Her name is Jasmine, and she was one of the few people who seemed to enjoy my company. Whenever first met her she was intrigued by my abilities, and later down the road she went about designing me special armor. It was the typical leather, with metal bracers and shoulders, but it acted as an additional shield, one that would mask my scent. Paired with my ability to essentially hide myself it made it easier for me to assassinate people without being detected. Apparently, my shield could act like a wall, while it didn't really make me invisible it could trick people into thinking nothing was there, creating a fog whenever my emotions became too high, which is why the armor was needed in case my shield falters. It was odd, and I still don't understand it 100%, but it made sense in some manner. The sword, while not completely necessary, was made of a metal that could slive through the tough skin of vampires, it was easier than using my hands.
Stopping at a seemingly random location in the woods I spotted my designation. It was a small cabin in the woods, bought for me for my mission. It was isolated to keep humans from stumbling on me, and from me running into them.
Looking around I checked for anyone near, even if I couldn't sense danger I knew it was best if I didn't let my guard down. Walking inside I noticed the paintings on the walls, they were your typical nature paintings. I guess Aro wanted to add some 'beauty' to a creepy cabin in the woods. It was humorous. Moving towards the bedroom I opened the closet, knowing Aro would've placed what I needed in there.
Inside was a few more cloaks, and a dagger next to the box on the floor. Picking up the box and dagger I placed it on the bed. In the box there were files, it would tell me who my target it, where they were located, their importance and finally what she could get paid. While money meant very little to her the Volturi found it to be funny.
The first file was a picture of a young man, changed at around twenty-seven years old. He was located in a nearby house, it was medium-sized, big enough to hold a decent amount of people. The next few files consisted of a range of genders, and ages, all said to be newborns. While it didn't seem like enough to be an army, it was enough to be worrisome.
It would be easy to get rid of them, to catch their house on fire and burn them all. It would be quick, and if any managed to get out I could easily dispatch them as they tried to flee. However, there were a few issues. The shifters are located in La Push, and the Cullen's. The shifters would only prove to be a major issue if I managed to alert them of my presence. The Cullens alone could find me if they decided to go hunting around my location.
It would be best if I finish fast, and get out of Forks. Grabbing the dagger I hooked it in the sheath on my boots before turning and leaving this little cabin. Once outside I put up my shield, knowing it would confuse anyone if they got too close, allowing me to get close to my targets. Looking around I went in the opposite direction, away from the cabin and towards those on my target list.
