Belloa's POV:

As we tumbled down towards the forest floor, flaring our arms about one thought occurred to me, can a vampire take fall damage?

I guess we'll find out.

A boom seemed to reignite throughout surroundings, no doubt being heard by anyone within earshot, supernatural beings included.

I groaned, pulling myself out of a small human-shaped hole. Have you ever seen that cartoon scene where the character leaves an impression on the ground? Yeah, that was us.

Rolling over I stood on wobbly feet, looking up I couldn't help the laugh that tumbled from my lips.

Alice was grumbling, the front of her outfit covered in dirt, and her hair decorated with a few twigs.

She looked up at the sound of laughter, a glare gracing her face.

However, seeing her like that, it was just plain adorable. My initial reaction was to walk up to her and pinched her cheeks, which I found myself unable not to do. I knew it was a bad idea but as I approach, with a wide smile, she didn't seem to think I had any malicious intent. I smirked internally, once the distance was closed I easily grabbed her cheeks.

"Aw, is the little person upset?"

She growled out, her eyes staring me down as she fussed, pushing me away and causing me to trip over the indention I'd made as I once again fell. She laughed, her previous annoyance gone, as her arms wrapped around herself.

Unable to stop myself I joined in, flopping down on the ground in defeat as a series of giggles erupted before turning into a full belly laugh.

For some time, all that could be heard was laughter. It slowly died down, followed by a sigh from either of us. I smiled, repositioning myself on my elbows I craned my neck to look up at Alice who seemed to be contently looking down at me from a few feet away.

"Can I ask you something?"

She nodded, and in response, I waved her over. My position once again changed as I moved to sit up, Alice mirroring me.

Staring at her a sudden feeling of nervousness filled me, "What were you going to say earlier before Jake interrupted?"

She seemed to do a double take internally, her eyes flickering before her face took on a neutral expression. Her hands began to toy with a rock she'd picked up from nearby.

"Well," clearing her throat she sighed, her eyes glancing up at my own, "we were talking about mates, remember that?"

I nodded, my hands instinctively reaching out to grab her still fiddling hands, "Alice, just say it."

She sighed, the rock that rested between her hand crumbling to ash, "We're mates."

My composure changed immediately, my hands pulling back as I processed the information. If we were mates... why did she let me dat Edward? Did she know?

My eyebrows crinkled, my teeth biting my lip, "How long have you known?"

If possible, she would've paled even more, her eyes glancing down to the dirt, "Please try to understand-"

I growled, my eyes turning deadly, "How long?"

Her voice was barely a whisper as she spoke, "Since my first vision of you, a month before you arrived."

Anger seemed to course through my veins, my hands becoming fists as I bolted up from my initial relaxed position, "What!?"

"I'm sorry! Please, I.. Edward, he- I didn't know how to-"
