Bella's POV

I'd messed up big time, it was a common rule within the Volturi guard to keep your identity unknown unless told otherwise. Sometimes we would outwardly strut around, letting everyone in the area know the Volturi were around as a way to scare people into submission. However, with my mission, stealth was a must. If that newborn that escaped managed to find their leader and let them know the Volturi are on their tail it may lead them to challenge us directly or go into hiding which would only cause us more problems.

Not only had I blown my cover, but I failed to kill all the newborns and guarantee the leader was dead. My gear would make it harder to be tracked, if anyone decided to follow me, but considering I had a patch on my chest that symbolized my alliance to the Volturi meant they probably knew where I was headed. Aro is going to throw a fit, he may even resort to punishment. I shouldn't have let the sight of Victoria throw me off, none of this would be happening, but maybe having her as a captive would alleviate some of Aro's anger.

I made it back to Volturi in a day's time, Victorais body still slung over my body as I approached the hidden tunnel. It wasn't too far out of the city, but it was hidden by brush, a way for us to enter the castle without any humans growing suspicious, plus carrying a decapitated body would surely gain the attention of law enforcement. Sighing I nodded at the guard that stood at the end of the tunnel, an unneeded safety measure. He eyed the body of Victoria but said nothing. No one was allowed to question the Guard, even those that followed the Kings.

I pushed open the heavy wooden door, following the quickest path to the throne room. I knew before I'd reached the Throne room doors that Aro and the other two kinds were waiting for me. I never bothered to get to know the other two, I knew of them and their names but considering they disapproved of me I managed to avoid them. They didn't trust me, mainly due to my ties with the Cullens, the one coven of vampires that truly worries them.

Pushing open the doors I immediately speed in front of the thrones, bowing down. My shield had fallen down the moment I'd entered that tunnel, I wasn't allowed to use it unless supervised by Jane and Alec, it was a security measure. Even though my shield didn't make me completely invisible, it altered the air around me.

Aro immediately perked up at seeing me, his back straightening in his chair, "Ah, Welcome home my dear. Is this the creator of the army you carry?"

I stood up, still holding Victoria, "I'm unsure Master. She was with the army, though I didn't witness any actions leading me to believe she was the leader."

Aro frowned, "Hmm. Jane, take her down to the dungeon, and let her mend back together before using your power to make her talk."

Jane appeared out of nowhere, standing in front of me with her arms outstretched, the pose making her resemble a child wanting to be picked up. I stopped myself from laughing and handed her to Jand, where she gripped her hair and disappeared once more.

Aro stood up, pacing in front of the other Kings, "More importantly, how did the mission go?"I sighed, shifting on my feet, my head lowered slightly, "I experienced some complications."Aro immediately stopped walking, his eyes trained on me, "Oh, was it those goody-two-shoe Cullens, or those Mutts?"

I shook my head, my fingers tapping the sides of my legs, "Neither Master."

Aro's face turned stiff, "How large of a mistake did you make?"

I didn't respond right away, my eyes drifting to the now corse looking Kings that had moved to stand on either side of Aro.

"I would prefer to show you than speak it out loud," I said, hopeful that if he saw what happened he may be more understanding.
