My little humming bird

Prologue

PROLOGUE

The harsh cold wind howled past my ears as it nipped my nose and cheeks. Big heavy rain drops fell from the dark sky.

"Molly, where's mama? When can we go home?" I hugged my six year old sister close to my chest.

"Soon Lils, we'll be ok." Lightning flashed and thunder boomed over head. Lillian screamed and buried her head in my coat. The trees around us thrashed around, threatening to fall on us. The darkness of the forest made me want to curl up in a hole and never come out. But I had to be strong for her. For Lillian. "Hush, Lils, keep quiet." I shivered from the icy cold wind and rain. Lils looked up at me with her electric blue eyes.

"Mama's not comin back is she?" I squeezed my eyes shut and took a deep breath.

"No, I don't think she will." I remembered the last thing she said to me "run, my dear, run and know I love you. Protect her." I remember her ear piercing scream as we ran into the woods. The creature mad and confused for we were no where in sight. In my grasp Lils tensed.

"He's coming Molly, I can hear him." She whispered. I strained my ears and sure enough from our hiding place in the bushes I heard the loud hoof beats. It had caught our sent.

"We have to run. Fast." I looked at Lils. "You ready?" she nodded timidly. "Go!" I half whispered half yelled. We bolted for the river. I had grew up in this forest. My family came here in the summer, every summer. I could find my way in the dark. He was closer now. I could smell him. If you've ever been to a petting zoo you can imagine that but ten times worse. Lils stumbled and fell behind me. I lost her hand.

"Lils!"

"I'm ok." she insisted but I could already tell her ankle was swelling. We didn't have time for this. The lake was just in sight.

"Come on. Piggy back ride." I quickly knelt down and hefted her onto my back. I stumbled to the river. Blinded by the rain and the stinging wind.

New book yaaaa! I didn't have a lot of success with my book "The Mirrored Room" so I'm going to take a break from that and start this new one. I have high hopes for this book. Please please please comment and vote. I'm going to try a regular update but I've been super busy recently. But hey I'll give it a go!
