There were now a couple of inches of snow on the ground here in the city.  People were building snow men in central park and pummeling random folks or passing cars with snow balls.  Between the ice, snow, and last minute Christmas shoppers, trying to get back to my apartment was an adventure to say the least.  But the thought of a warm cup of tea and a possible Skype date with Frank motivated me to pick up the pace.

When I finally managed to unlock the front door I was welcomed by a wave of heat and the smell of cozy apartment.  I  quickly made some tea and slipped out of my thick winter jacket and boots.  Almost immediately after I signed onto Skype Franks was calling me.  I quickly answered and was greeted with "Merry Christmas eve eve eve!"

"Ha same to you," I stated with a sheepish smile.  I was trying my hardest to remain optimistic about the holidays without him.  To remind myself how much I had enjoyed the past month with band and to look forward to our vacation in Jersey together.  "So what's new," I asked in an attempt to change the subject.

"Oh nothing much, same old same old," he stated with a sigh.  "How about you? When do you leave for Jersey?"

"We leave here tomorrow.  I guess their family goes all out with parties this time of year.  Lots of bouncing around to other family members houses and what not.  Should be fun," I stated with a reassuring smile.

"Hey that sounds great," he stated with relief.  I think we were both relieved that I would be quite distracted.  "Make sure you try to stay in trouble. Got it?"

"Yes sir," I stated with a small salute.

To our relief, the roads were clear of snow and congestion as we made our way into Jersey.  For most of the ride, Link and I thought up random funny songs in the back seat of Kurt's car.  We were all anxious to get out of the car and have a home cooked meal instead of crappy gas station food.

"Are we there yet," Link  moaned for about the millionth time.  He knew perfectly well where they were and how much longer it'd be, but annoying Kurt while he drove brought him entertainment.  Listening to them bicker helped pass the time and random jam sessions helped too.

By 5 we were pulling into the yard of Kurt and Jay's  home.  Before the car came to complete stop Jay hopped out of the car, stretching his long limbs.  All of us quickly joined him and began to grab our bags.  Before we could reach the front door a petite woman with short brown hair came out of the house, quickly making a b-line for Kurt.  "Oh Kurt!!"  She wrapped her arms around him and she pulled down on his jacket so that she could give him a peck on the cheek.

"That's my mom," murmured Jay as if it weren't obvious.  She quickly made her way to Jay and then to Link.

"And you must be Eva!  Its so nice to finally meet you! I've heard so much about you!" Jay scoffed a bit but his mother quickly silenced him with a sharp slap to the gut.  I couldn't help but laugh, what a woman.  "Well come on, lets get you all inside.  Dinners ready so drop your bags when  you get inside and go eat."

I sipped my tea at the kitchen tea as Stella, Jay and Kurt's mom, sat back down next to me.  She had the boys on dish duty so that she could get to know me, which i thought was pretty sweet.  "Thank you for letting me join you for the holidays," I said for probably the 5th time.

"Oh really the pleasures all mine.  I've heard alot about you, good things," she said with a sincere and heart warming smile.  "I'm sorry you couldn't be with your family this year."

I waved it off and said "Oh, yeah well thats life haha." And life sucks.

"Now your mother has passed correct?" I nodded "And your father left?" i nodded again as i sipped my tea.  "And you have an older brother, right?"
