The waves crashed alongside the sturdy support of the ship, the pungent smell of salt sprinkled over the sighs of the winds as it rustled past Onyx's hair.

Cracks of thunder screamed above her, the blue sky turning into darkening grey clouds. The flash of lightning broke through the darkness, illuminating the dark ocean.

They had been at sea for seven days now and the kingdom of Serius was just miles away, but looking out into the vast emptiness before her, it still seemed days away.

"We should be there in no time." Lucien's voice broke through her thoughts and she looked back to see him guiding the ship through another wave.

"You said that five days ago" she breathed, shaking her head. "How much longer?"

This time, he turned back to meet her eyes, an amused smile on her lips. "Soon, I promise" he informed. "Consider yourself lucky. This was a relatively calm sail compared to what I dealt with. I envy you."

"That makes one of us" she chuckled, cupping her stomach. Hunger had been feeding at her entrails for the past two days since they went through their food supply and the salty air and gentle rock of the ship only made her nauseous.

Lucien only laughed a bit more, shaking his head as he turned his concentration back to the wheel, leaving her to lean against the ship for support. Bile threatened to spill from her mouth and it took all her strength to steady herself on her unsteady legs before leaning over the lip of the boat, vomiting into the waters below.

The bitter taste lingered in her mouth as she wiped her mouth, looking up at the sky as the first bit of rainfall fell on her nose. The crack of thunder sent a chill down her spine as she supported herself on the side of the boat, rocking her body back and forth to keep her calm.

At this moment, she wished death upon Rheynoak.

Her fingers traced around the thick band around her waist, outlining the delicate curve of her daggers as she took a deep breath, patting her burning cheeks as her body broke out into sweats.

"I see the shores of the kingdom. We have arrived" Lucien announced, capturing her attention.

She looked up, seeing the outline of the trees and the curves of the shore. She walked up to the nose of the boat next to Lucien, pressing her palms against the lip of the boat as she breathed in the fresh air of Serius.

The wind was strong as they grew closer, the shores of the kingdom calling to them as they waded through the last rough bumps of the waves. A few fishermen were lingering by the shore, trading meat for weapons and catching their next meal of the day. Beyond them were white mountains and above that were castles, cities, civilians.

Danger.

A knot pulled inside Onyx's stomach as Lucien docked the ship near the shores, unleashing the heavy anchor into the sea. It sunk through the water and hit the floor with a thud, successfully holding the boat.
