Jeana's Pov

I stare at Skylar and blink multiple times, then to mum, then to dad, and repeated this for what felt like an hour. Both parents stare at anywhere but me, looking guilty as hell.

"What did you just call me?" I ask, chuckling again.

She picks at her nail and looks up to my dad who coughs awkwardly, shrugging her shoulders afterwards.

"Mum. Dad." I give my fakest, most annoyed smile ever to them. "Can we speak in the kitchen for a moment?"

They quietly excuse themselves out of the room and follow behind me, like the situation was turned and I was the parent of them.

Once we reach the other room, Mum opens her mouth to speak first.

"Look, we-"

"WHAT THE HELL!?" I whisper/scream harshly. "Why is she here!?"

"Well..." Dad clears his throat. "It's kinda a long story."

Tanya's Pov
*early that day*

"Ready?" Jim asks me, squeezing my hand.

I breathe out and nod. Our second kid will be official today. We're officially adopting a baby today.

"I think so." I then make an inhumane noise. "I'm so excited!"

"Me too!" Jim agrees before unbuckling his seat belt and jogging around to open my door. I take his hand and climb out and we walk towards the building.

The door makes a little bell noise when it opens, and Jackie perks up from her desk.

"Oh, hello there! Is today the day?" She asks, rubbing her hands together with excitement.

We nod happily.

"Today is the day." I reply, my breath shaky.

"Have you decided? Or do you want to visit the kids again?" She gives us options, walking around towards us.

"I think we've decided." Jim nods, looking towards the baby room.

"Okay. If you want, you can spend time with them while I get the papers ready." She smiles.

I nod. "Thankyou, that'd be great."

We walk towards the room, but something stops me before we enter. It's almost like a crying noise, but not from the room full of babies.

"Jim, wait." I call out in a whisper, looking at the door beside us. "Do you hear that?"

"Is that Skylar's room?" He asks.

I nod. "I think she's crying. Should we check?"

He shrugs and I knock on the door softly. The crying stops and turns into a soft sob.

"Are you alright?" I call out gently.

"Y-yes." The voice says back to me, but it sounds sad and broken.

We glance at each other before I open it wider.

"Oh, it's you guys." She says sadly, wiping her eyes.

"Why are you crying?" My husband asks.

"It's nothing." She whispers. "D-did you come here to adopt?"

We nod and she grins. "Oh, that's awesome. Whoever you pick is sure lucky."

I take a seat next to her and rub her back. "Can you tell us what's wrong? We can't leave until you do."

Jim sits on the floor in front of us and listens carefully.

"It's just that... everyone's mad at me and I don't know what I did wrong. I lost all my friends and I'm too scared and embarrassed to go to school anymore because I'm going to look dumb all by myself." She explains through sobs.
