Transitioning

2 months later
"You need anything from the store while I'm out?" Barry asked, picking up his keys from the table.
"No I'm good, I'm about to leave for work so I'll see you tonight." I told him.
"Want me to drop you off?" He asked.
"No it's fine, it's way out of the way. I'll see you tonight." I said.
He nodded and ducked out.
Once I was alone I slipped into Iris's room and changed. I worked at a 10 Minute Oil Change as a receptionist but occasionally they would send me out to get supplies for extra cash.
Sooner or later I would earn enough money to rent an apartment so I wouldn't have to rely on Joe's hospitality any longer. Growing up I'd always been on my own, so living under someone else's roof and eating someone else's food made me feel like I was taking advantage of them.
I glanced at the clock and realized that I had to be at the bus stop in less than 5 minutes so I quickly grabbed my bag and a few dollars in change and ran out.

•••

Around 7:30 the bell on the door jingled, indicating that it had been opened. Without looking up from my paperwork I said the mandatory greeting.
"Welcome to 10 Minute Oil Change."
"Kelsey?" I heard a familiar voice ask.
I looked up in shock.
"Stiles what are you doing here?" I asked standing up and walking around the desk.
"Did you really think you could get rid of me that easily?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes and pulled him into a hug.
I felt him wince, "Easy, my ribs are still healing."
I scrunched my face in apology.
"Sorry, how have you been? How's everything in Beacon Hills?" I asked.
"I'm fine, we all miss you ya know. It'd be great if you'd just come home." He told me raising an eyebrow.
My smile faded.
"So that's why you're here? What, did Scott send you?" I asked crossing my arms.
"Actually no. He told all of us to give you space. I just came because I felt like you should know we care about you, and we want you back." He said moving to stand in my direct line of vision.
"Stiles you don't know what he did-"
"Yeah, Kelsey, I actually do. And if we're being completely honest I kinda get why he did it." He interrupted.
I shook my head.
"He told you?" I asked.
Stiles nodded, "I'm his best friend, of course he did."
I rolled my eyes, "How could you take his side? You know how badly the transition hurt me! You know I would have done anything to get out of it!" My voice was rising along with the blood to my face.
"And that's exactly why Scott didn't tell you, he knew you'd do anything to end it, even if it meant death. He and Derek both agreed it would be better to keep it from you until they found a better way."
"Bullshit"
"No Kelsey, it's not bullshit, they were doing what's best for you-"
"Were they? Or were they doing what was best for them?" I hissed.
"They did it to protect you. The chances of it killing you were too high." he said in an attempt to calm me.
"I would have rather been dead!" I yelled, somewhere in the back of my head I was extremely thankful the store was empty right now.
Stiles let out a deep breath, shaking his head at the floor.
"I didn't come to argue Kelsey, and I'm not taking anyone's side. I just missed you that's all, we all do, whether you believe it or not." He told me softly.
I let out a sigh to calm myself.
I wanted to apologize to him.
I wanted to hold on to him and cry.
I even party wanted to drive back to Beacon Hills.
but I knew I couldn't.
