"You know." Steff says to me one day as we have breakfast. "I love spending time with you. And I know you have Joanne but I think you should hang out with some people you own age. You need friends."

I look over at her like she's crazy. "I don't know if you've notices but at the moment I am changing COUNTRY nearly every day or two. I don't think that is really the ideal situation to be making friends in."

"I know, I know." She says throwing her hands up in the air. "But there are a few options we have. One is the fact that at this moment there are about 100 people standing outside this building who would love to be friends with you. You could have your pick in each country. The other option is that when you find someone you really like we could fly them over here for the weekend."

"Um, because I saw how well that worked out with your boyfriend." I say before I realise what I'm saying.

Her eyes start to tear up.

"I'm so sorry." I apologise.

She doesn't say anything more but looks away from me for a while. I feel so bad for bringing it back up. He broke up with her 2 weeks ago but she is still really upset about it. I can understand it because she really liked him and he just suddenly left her.

She walks off back into her room without letting me see her face. I go and sit on the couch with my head in my hands and think about what I said. I also think about what she said. It is true that I haven't hung out with anyone my age for a long time. Since I met Steff really.

"Alice, can you come will you come in here please." Steff calls from her bedroom. I walk in to find her sitting on the edge of her bed. She indicates for me to sit down next to her.

"I'm sorry about that." She says. "It wasn't your fault. I guess I'm still a bit sensitive about it."

"I'm sorry for bringing it up." I say

"Don't be. You're right anyway. But it would be different with a friend. You don't have to see a friend every few days to keep a relationship up."

"But I don't get it." I say, "I have you. I don't need anyone else."

She smiles. "Alice I love you, but you need to hang out with people your own age."

"I did have some friends back in Australia." I say. "I wouldn't mind seeing them again."

"Okay, well I'll tell you what to do. Do you have their numbers." I nod. "Perfect. Were going to be preforming in Nice, France next Saturday. Do you want to ring them up and see if they want to come down and see you. I'm sure you could figure out something really fun to do."

"Yeah okay. That sounds fun." I say.

I get my phone out and call my friend Cara. She was probably my best friend back home. And now that I think about it I do kinda miss her.

I take a deep breath in and dial her number. I put my phone on speaker phone so Steff can hear her answer and then discus details with her.

After 4 rings she answers.

"Hello, who is this." She says as she answers.

"Hi, um it's Alice." I say, "Do you remember me."

"Oh yes I remember you. You're the bitch who found Lady Gaga and then left her own life behind. You never even told me yourself that you got adopted. I had to find out from the news. Infact that's the only way I have known what you've been up to. The news. Not once have you rung to say 'Oh hey Cara I got adopted by Lady Gaga.' Or even, 'Guess what Cara I'm going on tour.' Or releasing a perfume or anything. You moved on with your life but you left all of us behind."

"I'm so sorry." I say, "I guess I've been a little busy."

"Yeah no. Being busy is maybe not telling us for a week. It doesn't take long to make a phone call. I'm sure in all of this time you've had time to make a phone call."

Steff puts her hand on my knee. I know she's right. I have been a shit friend.

"You know I have had a lot of stuff going on in my own life too." The anger in her voice increases. "You're not the only one who has to live a pity party. The only difference is that most of us don't have Lady freaken Gaga swoop in and save us from it. You know my dad left mum and he left with all of our money. He also had the rights to the house. So now we're living in a tiny apartment with another family, with no money to spend. So yeah it kinda sucks real bad. To make it worse my little brother is really sick right now and we don't know if he's going to live more than a couple more months. But it's okay because you can go live in your perfect life and forget all about us. In fact do that because honestly I don't want to hear from you again."

"Cara I so sorry..."

I don't get to finish because she has already hung up on me.

Steff pulls me into a hug. "Don't worry Alice it's not your fault. Sometimes you just have to leave people behind."

"No." I say, "I should have called her. She's right. I did move on with my life while leaving her behind."

"But Alice." Steff replies. "You had every right to. You are an amazing person and you deserved an amazing life. I can tell just from how unforgiving she is that she's nowhere near as amazing as you. You deserve this life Alice, don't let her make you think otherwise."

"Whether I deserve this life or not is a completely different question. The fact is I shouldn't have forgotten about her. I was a shit friend."

"Alice I honestly just think you should leave it behind this time. I don't think you should dwell on it too much."

"You know what." I say, "I have decided on what I want to do with the money I made from the perfume. I want to put it towards putting her family up in a house. And giving them a bit of money to help them get back on their feet. As well as paying any expenses for her little brother to help him get better."

"Alice you see, this is why you are so darn amazing." She says tackling me down on the bad in a hug. "I love you so much it's crazy."

A/N

So do you think Cara was right to get angry with Alice.

P.S  A shoutout to anyone who can remember when Cara first came into the story.  I'll give you a clue.  It was a LONG time ago.
