Chapter 7

                Morning came and when Sarah walked out of Kale’s room, Melanie was coming out of her room. “Well someone had a good night”. Mel said. “Good morning to you too Mel; and yes, I had the most wonderful night and that was the first night of the rest of my life”. Sarah said to Melanie. “Let’s go down and make breakfast. What would you like to have?” Mel asked Sarah. “I don’t know we got a busy day ahead of us so we got to make something that’s not going to weigh in our stomachs.” As Sarah and Melanie went down stairs to the kitchen, Sarah noticed a folded piece of paper sticking out from under the door. She went over to it as Mel asked what that was. Sarah opened it and read. The look on Sarah’s face made Mel scared and ran over to her side. “What is it Sarah?” Sarah screamed and dropped the letter. She didn’t know what to do, she couldn’t breathe, she needed to sit down or she was going to fall down. Sarah couldn’t control her breathing. She was almost hyperventilating when everyone came running down the stairs in confusion as to why Sarah screamed. Mel was already done reading the letter and looking terrified herself. Mel handed the letter to Chase when he fell off the couch and ran in. “Some wakeup call” Blake said as he was the last to come down. When he looked at Sarah and Melanie and then at Chase he knew something was up. Kale asked what the letter said as he was calming Sarah down. “It, it, threatening, it, threatening, It’s threatening you.” Sarah got out. Kale looked at the others “What?” Chase handed Kale the letter. He read it.

                   “Mr. Kale McJonas, if you know what’s good for you,

You’ll stop the renovation on the mansion or you will be pulled apart in every direction and sliced to little pieces.”

 “What kind of bullshit is this?” “He knows where you live Kale. He knows about you, us, and what we are doing.” Sarah said getting worked up some more. “I’m not letting this stop me. I promised I would find out who did this to your family and that is exactly what I am going to do.” “Kale, you have to stop. They, he will kill you and tear you to shreds.” Natalie said. Sarah burst out crying “I lost my family and I’m not going to lose you Kale, you have to stop.” “I’m not backing down because some thugs threaten me.” Kale said in a harsh tone. Chase jumped in and made a comment to the girls “That is all the ammunition Kale needs to find out who did this. Kale has never been one to back down and threatening him just gives him an ego boost.”  “Remember that time when we were in tenth grade and James Minerva threatened to kick your ass after school if you didn’t quit the team?” Kale smiled. Blake went on “Kale didn’t quit the team and he won the trophy for best in the sport.” “It’s like the parent who says no to a child and the child does it anyway.” Melanie said. “Yeah, something like that. When Kale is told no, he gets more determined.” Chase said. “This time, he has all of us to back him up and they aren’t going to be able to get him alone because we are going to be there right by his side.” Mel told Sarah to help calm her. Sarah got up and hugged Kale “I don’t want you hurt.” “I’m not going to get hurt Honey. They don’t know who their messing with. And besides I have the police on my side.” Kale said with a little laugh hoping to cheer her up. “So much for the surprise breakfast.” Sarah said looking at Melanie. Blake took Sugar out as Kale started pouring coffee. Sarah sat down at the kitchen table, she was still shaken a bit but feeling better.

They talked about their day and when they would meet up after work. Sarah had already called one of the librarians to open the library so she could go to the mansion with Kale. Chase, Natalie, Melanie and Blake all ate and got in the showers at different times and got ready for work. “Thank God Kale has three full bathrooms.” Natalie said as Mel came in to put on her make-up. “Yeah, we would all have problems taking turns with the shower since two of us have to be at work the same time and then the other two within a half hour of each other” Mel said back to Natalie. “If worse came to worse, I could always use the shower at the lab and Chase could use the shower at the station so that you and Blake could use the shower here” Natalie said back. “I guess” Melanie said. When they were all ready, they met back in the kitchen to fill up their mugs and head out but they made their plans and what each one was going to do with their part of the research. “Everyone know what they are doing?” Natalie asked. “Yes” they all answered and left for work. Kale and Sarah were the only ones home. Kale grabbed Sarah and pinned her body to his. “Don’t let this bother you Honey, it doesn’t bother me. If anything this is a good way for the bastard to mess up and we’ll catch him.” “I hope so, I don’t want that gorgeous face of yours messed up” Sarah said scared but trying to be brave. Kale kissed her and told her not to worry. He told her he was going to go get a shower if there was any more hot water left. Sarah suggested they take a shower together to conserve water. Kale liked that idea. “No funny business either mister; I’ve had a rough morning” Sarah joked with him. Kale laughed and promised no funny business. As they took their shower they talked about the blueprints and the secret stairs from the attic. Sarah was scared again but Kale assured her he would be there with her and nothing was going to happen to them.  They dried off and got dressed. As Sarah blow dried her hair, Kale shaved. As Sarah put on her make-up, Kale combed his hair. Everything was working like clockwork. Kale put the brush back in the drawer and just stared at Sarah in the mirror. “What?” Sarah said when she noticed him staring at her. “You’re so beautiful, I didn’t realize that before.” Kale said. “OK” Sarah said unsure what Kale meant by ‘before’. Kale went on “I mean when I first saw you, I thought you were cute, I felt a connection to you and didn’t know why. I talked with Chase about it and I still couldn’t put my finger on it. But now I am looking at you and you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.” Sarah blushed and got quiet. “Thank you” she said softly. “Shy one are you? Well get used to it because I plan on saying that every day for the rest of my life.” Sarah looked up at Kale and Kale just kissed her shoulder blade and went in the bedroom to get dressed. Sarah finished her make-up and went back in the bedroom to look at herself one more time in the full length mirror. “Does this outfit look ok?” She asked Kale. Kale turned around and said “Yeah” ‘Ok’ she thought and grabbed her shoes. “Ready” Kale said. “Ready as I’ll ever be, I guess. Let’s go before I change my mind”. Sarah walked toward the door; Kale came up from behind her and wrapped his arms around her stomach. “I love you Sarah, if at any time you don’t want to do something, tell me. I won’t make you” he said and kissed her cheek. “I know I love you too”. Sarah responded back to Kale.
