Chapter 9
They were all quiet while they focused on the notes and papers left for them. Pieces were starting to fit together but was still unsure who and why. Chase kept all his speculations to himself. He wanted to get these people and he wanted to put a case together so large that he would bust them good. Kale had some speculations of his own but the rest of them were clueless. Sarah was beginning to piece things together but she wasn’t sure about any of this.
Sarah suggested making a list of all the evidence they have. Names, places, and all the information they had. “Maybe making a list will help put things in order” Sarah suggested. “I think better with lists” She exclaimed. “Me too” Mel said. “If I have everything in order and all on one paper I can see and think more clearly” Mel added as she put all the papers she had down. Blake was going from one paper to another comparing all the notes and then comparing some more to other papers. “Ok, maybe that’s a good idea. I keep jumbling these papers around and I’m getting lost” Blake blurted out in frustration. Sarah pulled out a big sized poster board and took out a marker. “Ok. We know that they were murders not accidents. We know there is several thousand or millions of dollars stolen. We know that there are more involved than we first thought. What else?” “Let’s write down all the clues on a separate piece” Natalie suggested. “Ok here. These are all the clues” Melanie said as she wrote down all the clues that they have. As Mel wrote down Marge’s name she still couldn’t believe she was involved. A slip of
the tongue which was not like Marge.” Chase was still quiet throughout all this. He was like a sponge absorbing everything that was said and shown. Kale seemed to be following Chases’ lead. Blake could speculate on the accounting books because that is what he did, but as to all the other stuff he didn’t know. Mel really couldn’t put much input into anything really other than Marge. Natalie put her specialties into the group when it came to being scientific and analyzing. Sarah tried to remember the little games her grandfather played with her trying to see if there were any other connections. Kale put his two cents in when it came to the mansion and secret passageways and Chase took it all in and kept quiet and writing in his little note pad. Chase was definitely showing his detective skills. Chase was also putting a big gap together without the rest of them knowing. Chase continued to listen and write when Sarah asked Chase for his opinion. “I need more information. I have some guesses but that’s all they are, just guesses. I want concrete information. I want total proof to put these people behind bars for the rest of their lives.” Chase said with anger in his voice. “Calm down bro, what got your panties in a bunch?” Blake asked Chase. “I don’t know. I thought Kale was crazy but I think I want this bastard more than he does” Chase explained. “No one wants to get this bastard more than Sarah. But at this point I think we all want the bastard to suffer” Melanie said walking to the door then stopped and turned around “I’m getting a beer, anyone want one or wine?” She continued. They all asked for one so Mel said she would bring it all out. When she came back in the room with four beers and two glasses of wine Chase was going over his list out loud to the others. “Hold that thought cutie and everyone grab your drink before I drop this tray.” Chase stopped and got up to help Mel. “I’m sorry Love, Here let me help you.” Melanie just stared at Chase as he handed out the drinks to everyone. “What? Did I do something wrong?” Chase asked her when he turned around and saw her looking at him in shock. “No. I never heard that from …. Anyone.” “What?” Chase asked. “You called me Love.” “Yeah, and?” “I’ve never been called that before.” “Well get used to it honey because I love you.” Chase said with a smile and a little laugh. Melanie almost dropped the tray anyway. She stared at Chase and froze. Natalie and Sarah were already standing by her side and smiling big like they were in grade school again. Kale put his hand on Chase’s shoulder and said “I’m about ready to faint. I never heard those words come from your mouth either.” Blake sat on the couch because he was too stunned to say anything. “What? Why is everyone acting like I just said I killed the Pope?” Chase said nonchalantly. “Neither Kale or I have ever heard those words come from your mouth. Other than telling your mother that; we have never heard you say that to any other woman. Not even Kelli” Blake said. Now Blake stood and held out his hand to Chase and looked at Kale “Our little boy has grown up.” “Very funny guys I never felt this before so why say it” Chase simply answered. Melanie looked at Chase and asked who Kelli was. “Never mind” Chase said but Kale jumped in to fill everyone else in about Kelli. “Kelli was this blonde dingbat with fucking huge fake tits and the most annoying voice and laugh. Chase dated her for about three years. Don’t ask me what he saw in her.” “She was extremely annoying” Blake added. “She wasn’t that bad” Chase said to defend himself. “Oh yes she was, we never told you so until you broke up with her” Blake said. “See Love, I broke up with her. Keep that in mind” Chase said to Melanie when he stood in front of her and put his hands on her hips and gave her a kiss.
