Chapter 11

 

             Chase was at the station when he got a call. “Hello, this is Chase.’ “Hi Chase this is Sarah. Kale is ready to go home and Melanie and I are getting all his stuff rounded up. We’ll see you at home when you can make it.” “Ok, I got some more to finish and I’ll be right over. I’ve got some leads and I want to tell everyone. Sarah, I’m really on to something.” “Great. I’ll let Kale and everyone know. We’ll all be there when you get to the house.” Sarah said back to Chase and hung up the phone. Sarah turned to Kale and told him what Chase said and Kale perked up a bit. “Damn it; he’s going to get them before I do.” “Now take it easy Kale, you’re in no condition to go off playing superman.” Melanie said with a smile. “We’ll all be there when we get these bastards.” Sarah said. “I am really looking forward to seeing them squirm.” Sarah added as she was helping Kale put on his shoes. The nurse came in with Kale’s discharge papers and Sarah listened then asked where to sign. She had enough of this place after being there for two weeks and just wanted to get Kale home. Sarah signed and looked at Kale “Now you’re all mine” she said with a smile. “Can’t I stay in here? She’s going to baby me and make me eat chicken noodle soup” Kale said jokingly to the nurse. “Then you’re in wonderful hands” the nurse smiled and said back. Sarah tapped Kale’s arm as to imitate a hit and gave him a devilish look. “Oh, you are so in trouble wise guy. Now I’m really going to baby you and feed you all kinds of chicken noodle soup until it comes out your ears.” They all laughed as the orderly came to the door and knocked. “Come in” Mel said. The orderly came in and said he was here to take Kale down to the car. “Oh, the car, I have to go out and pull it around.” Mel said as she grabbed her purse and got out her car keys. “I’m going now and I’ll be right by the door waiting for you.” Mel said. The orderly checked to make sure everything was packed and that the papers were signed and Kale knew all the instructions. “Yes, listen to whatever this beautiful lady tells me.” Kale said and winked at Sarah. “Yeah, that pretty much sums it up, shall we go?” the orderly asked. “Yes, finally” Kale said. They were headed to the elevator when Sarah’s cell phone buzzed. She figured it could wait until they got outside. Natalie was desperately trying to get a hold of her. Every time she got the voice mail she hung up and called right back. Sarah ignored it until she stepped outside. “Hello” Sarah said sarcastically when she popped the cell open and put it to her ear. “You don’t have to get nasty with me. I’ve got some totally awesome news. I’m going over to your house in about an hour, gather everyone up.” Nat said. “Already done. Chase called a little bit ago saying he had a very good lead and to get everyone together.” “Great, I’m on my way. Hey, how’s Kale?” “We are getting him into Mel’s car right now. Gotta go” Sarah said and hung up the phone and placed it back in her purse.

 

               The ride back home wasn’t the best. Kale could feel every bump in the road and winced every time. “I’m sorry Kale, this damn road. You know I really should call the road construction department on this.” Mel said in a sentimental voice. “Just get me home. The bumps really aren’t that bad until you can feel every single one of them.” Kale said. Sarah sat in the back seat with Kale, holding him. Kale looked at Sarah and said

“You are really going to be a pain in the butt aren’t you?” “Yes, I am. I am so going to baby you. I am going to give you the best care I can give you” Sarah said back to him and kissed the tip of his nose. “Pay back’s a bitch isn’t it?” “Yep.”
