Chapter 14

Later that night when everyone had gone home, Kale and Sarah sat up in bed reading over Natalie’s packet that she had put together for them. “What are we missing?” Sarah said to Kale. “I have no clue. We have gone over these over and over and I still can’t find anything” Kale said back to Sarah. “Maybe if I categorize the person with the place and list everything that was their part.” “Maybe, it wouldn’t hurt” Kale said. Sarah began listing all the names across the piece of paper she grabbed. Underneath each name she listed who they were and what their position is like before. She then connected them to each of their parts in this thing she calls hell. She still couldn’t figure out who or what was missing. “Ok, enough for tonight” Sarah said and put the papers on the night stand. “Let me look at those if you don’t mind” Kale asked Sarah. “No, I don’t mind” Sarah reached over grabbed the papers and gave them to Kale. “I’m going to sleep honey. You can stay up and look those over until your heart’s content.” Sarah rolled over and went to sleep. Kale looked over the list Sarah had just written. “There has got to be something here that we missed” Kale said quietly to himself. Kale made notes of his own and flipped between pages jotting down more notes. Sarah stirred and half way woke up. “Kale it’s three o’clock in the morning, are you still going over all that stuff?” “Yeah, I think I’m on to something. You go back to sleep baby. I’ll let you know in the morning if I actually got something” Kale said but Sarah was already falling back to sleep. Kale leaned over and kissed Sarah’s forehead and whispered ‘I love you’. Kale sat back up and continued to go over the papers. It was almost six thirty now and Kale had just caught something. He wasn’t sure if it was relevant or not but he was going to go with it. He compared it with some of the other papers and this one was different. The handwriting was definitely different. Kale went over every single piece of paper checking the handwriting. ‘Why didn’t we look at that in the first place?” Kale said to himself. It was such a small thing but they should have seen it the first time. Kale found several other pages that had the same handwriting, granted the handwriting were only initials or little scribble things that looked like shorthand.  Kale put some of the papers on his night stand and saw something written on the back of one paper with his lava lamp light. “Holy shit” Kale said out loud. Sarah woke up and said “What? What happened?” What’s the matter?” “Nothing, I mean look, I saw something on this under this light. Look” Kale showed Sarah. “We got to call Chase and get that light thing of his” Sarah said. “How many more pages have writing on them?” Kale asked in general as he looked at the paper. “What time is it?” Sarah asked. “About seven thirty” Kale said. “Have you been up all night going over these?” Sarah asked. “Yeah” Kale said as he got on the phone. “Chase, I need you to get over here or we come over there” “Kale do you know what time it is?” “Yeah. I’ve been up all night looking over these papers and I think I found something.” “What did you find Kale?” Chase said still groggy. “There are some of the pages that have different initials and some have some short hand type writing and when I laid some of the pages down I saw some invisible writing on the back under my lava lamp light.” “Your what? You still have that thing?” “Yeah and now it came in handy” Kale said. “Are you sure you saw something and not just seeing things because you were up all night?” “Sarah saw it too and she was sleeping until I just woke her up” “Ok, I’ll be over in a minute” “Thanks Chase. I think we got something.” Kale said and hung up the phone. “He’s on his way” Kale told Sarah. “Ok, I’ll get up and put the coffee on” “You’re so good to me. Thank you baby” “Your welcome Kale but you owe me.” “Anything you want” Sarah got up and put her robe on. Then she called Sugar and went down stairs. Sarah opened the door and let Sugar out and then put the coffee on. She got the pets breakfast and sat down at the table and yawned. Frankie jumped up on the table, purred and rubbed against Sarah’s hands. Sarah picked up Frankie and asked him what he was doing on the table. He rubbed his little head on her face and meowed as if he was talking to her. “Yeah, I love you too” Sarah told Frankie. Kale came down stairs and went into the kitchen. Kale rubbed Frankie’s head on his way to get a mug for coffee. “You want some babe?” Kale asked Sarah. “Please” Sarah said as she put Frankie down and got up to let Sugar back in. “Come on Sugar, come get your breakfast.”  Sugar came running in and ran right up to her bowl. Kale gave Sarah her cup and heard Chase pull in so he got another cup out and poured some coffee for Chase. The door opened and Kale handed him the cup then Melanie walked in. “Oh, I see how you are, I now know whose your favorite” Mel said. “Chase said HE was coming, I’ll get you a cup” Kale said to Mel. “Thanks, you’re such a dear” Mel said sarcastically. Kale handed her a cup of coffee with a big smile. “Ok show me what you saw so I can tell you your fucked in the head and I can go home and go back to bed” Chase said. Kale showed him the papers and then flipped them all over so Chase could scan them with his black light. All kinds of messages came up when Chase shown the light on the papers. “Quick, get me a pen” Chase said. “Here, hold this right there” Chase said to Kale as he held the light over a section of the paper. Chase wrote it all down as he scanned them. Now the thing was they had to put everything in order since they had gone over them and had mixed the pages up. “Who wrote this?” Mel asked. “It could either be the dick head we are looking for or Sarah’s grandfather” Chase said. Sarah was already reading what Chase had wrote, “This is not my grandfather. This is not how he talks” “Then it must be who we’re looking for” Mel said. “Or it could be one of the ones we already have” Kale said. “Could be but,” Chase said and then stopped to look again. “This isn’t one of the ones we got” Chase said. “How do you know?” Sarah asked. “Look at this, which one of the pricks we got would say this?” Chase said. “I guess you’re right. That confirms it. We have got to figure out who the other person is” Mel said. Chase wracked his brain trying to think of anyone he has been around that talked like that but no luck so far.
