Chapter 30
Tears, more tears, they fell from his deep eyes trailing down his smooth pale cheek. It may have just been me. I was struck with shock and felt as if a rock was shoved down my throat. It was so hard to breath. How would you not need to feel the need to cry when a child is sobbing about where there mommy and daddy is at? Will anyone be able to tell him that they’re dead? I don’t want my parents to be dead either. I want them to be alive. I wanted to see them again because I haven’t seen them much as I grew up.
Lucien was holding Essex and also looked torn but in a different way. His face was dead pale and his eyes were lifeless. My sister on the other hand, just remained calm but was holding onto something.
“Where are they...!?” Essex cried “Mommy....” I blinked a few tears away as Essex caught me being here.
“Nobody told him?” I raised my head to the many people in the single room. Most of them I didn’t know.
“Lex-is!” He called and sniffed “Do you know where they are?” The heavy air in the room was probably making it worse for Essex. All eyes had moved to me with caution. Essex was lowered down and he hiccupped to come in front of me. Why lie? Why make things sound better than they are?
“Essex,” I croaked. I knew what every single one of them were planning to do. They will keep telling him lies about the situation until they run out of them. Sugar coating things won’t solve any problems.
“They’re dead,” I calmly explained. Eyes in the room popped as Demon’s jaw dropped. Essex all the sudden became silent. He doubly blinked at me.
“What’s dead?” He asked.
“Dead is when you can’t see them anymore. They can’t talk back to you. They can’t be physically there, but if you want to talk to them, wherever you are, they will listen. They’re inside of you, apart of you,” I carefully spoke and tried not to let my voice fall to pieces. A woman took a step in front with a wide opened mouth to protest.
“Can I give the parts back to mommy and daddy to see them?” He sniffed. I nodded no and tears strolled down his cheek but still stood quieter than before. I pulled him into a hug and felt the insides of me fall apart. Please... Don’t let them die before I find them.
“Can you be my mommy?” Essex asked. Ha-ha, this kid is even funny when people are dead.
“No, I can’t,” I shrugged. Essex continued to cry. Eventually we had to leave, and walk out of the room and into the hallway. I stayed silent within my thoughts. Essex was going to be taken care by Lucien and my sister. Both, I don’t trust. Too many suspicious things are happening. Sure, Lucien’s family is rich and all...but who was the real target? Apparently, Demon’s father, Demon, Lucien and Daphne was supposed to be there for that day ‘serial killers’ came breaking into the castle. Demon’s mother says Demon is also in danger. Not to mention there are other things are going on... My life is becoming a tragedy after another.
