resolutions

I count the hours till I make my New Years resolution,
I want to do something important like start a revolution,
Or make something better of my hometown's institution.

But like last year, my dreams will fade into the morning light,
Because I know I'm too scared to put up a fight,
And prove to the world that they weren't right.

So I count the minutes till I make my New Years resolution,
Knowing I'll never do something like figure out evolution,
Then I think 'Maybe this year all I need is retribution'.

See, I've never been your average thinker,
Making my boat full of ideas and plans easy sinkers,
And so sometimes the people around me get emotionally injured.

Now I count the seconds till I make my New Years resolution,
Thinking of a way to not end up in destitution,
But rather start my micro-revolution.

3,2,1... It's here, the moment I dreaded seconds ago,
And it feels the same as last year, though,
My resolution is to fix my problems instead of trying to put on a show.
