Lunch time would be the real test of whether or not Darcie knew about Sean's arrival as part of the coaching team. So far, he'd made his presence know by giving his two cents worth on every little thing we did as a team. We weren't cohesive enough. We weren't dynamic enough. We weren't anything enough!

I was the worst, though, according to Sean. If his criticism of the team as a whole was bad, the way he tore into everything I did was worse. I didn't have the skill to be QB. I didn't know the playbook through and through. I didn't command respect. Honestly, the list is too long to remember but for some reason, I hated the critique he gave Coach Ang about me. I had skill. I knew the playbook. I had respect.

I had Darcie, too.

The guys and I took a table at the rear of the dining hall, keeping enough seats free for the RGs that would be joining us. Being the Rally Girl for anyone on the football team gave you instant status at Pembroke High and the sooner the newbies got used to sitting with us at lunch, the smoother the transition would be when school started back up. Ritchie's RG was the first to join us and take her seat next to him. Soon after, Owen's RG arrived and politely introduced herself to the rest of us.

"I'm Erin," she smiled before initiating conversation with Owen.

The only ones left was Lauren Cass, Harlan's sister and RG, and Darcie. Harlan explained that Lauren was always the last to leave cheer practice and that Darcie was probably running late because Lauren was nattering on. Still, whatever the reason, nervous tension grew in my stomach as I anticipated Darcie seeing Sean again. The sickeningly cute reunion between the two made me nauseous and I couldn't wait for it to be over.

"Here they come," Harlan whispered. Seconds later, the seat next to me was occupied as Darcie sat, setting her lunch down in front of her. Harlan's face scrunched up as he saw what she'd be eating. "Hamburger? Darcie, that is not nutritious."

In retaliation for his comment, Darcie simply picked up her burger and bit into it, a loud moan escaping her lips as she ate. "Seems pretty delicious to me," she beamed sarcastically. Looking around the table, Darcie asked, "How was football?"

"It was ok," Ritchie answered. There was a gleam in his eye. "We have a new addition to the coaching team. Him, there."

Ritchie pointed towards the line of people at the buffet, singling out Sean. Out of interest, the girls all turned to look at the person, with Tayla, Ritchie's RG, instantly asserting that he was 'hot as fuck.' Erin shrugged and went back to eating her lunch. Lauren, however, cautiously looked at Darcie. That alone made me turn to gauge the reaction of my RG.

She looked furious.

Getting to her feet, she moved away from the table and quickly made her way to Sean. He must have sensed her approach as he turned to greet her with the smarmiest smile on his face that I had ever seen. The smile, though, was soon wiped off his face when Darcie's hand reached up and came crashing down against his cheek with an echoing smack.

"My ESPN tells me that she is not happy to see him," Ritchie stated the obvious. When Darcie slapped Sean once more, Ritchie laughed victoriously. "I sense a juicy story here. Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen, I need to go and console my future wife. Hey, Darcie, wait up!"
