Chapter Twenty-One
Sebastian
I ran through the backyard laughing as Sammy chased me. "Tag, you're it!" He yelled as I felt a hand touch my back. I quickly turned around to find that he had already started running away.
I chased him for a few more minutes before he ran out of breath. "One day you're gonna be great at sports and you'll be able to run for miles." I told him.
I walked over to our mom's garden and looked at all of her colorful flowers. I smiled as I realized they were just like her; colorful and happy. I reached down and carefully picked a small blue one.
"Here you go." I said as I gave Sammy the flower with a smile.
"Why are you always so nice to people?" Sammy asked me.
"What do you mean?" I asked him.
"I mean, why do you randomly hug people and give people flowers and comfort them?" He asked.
"I don't know. I just feel like everyone needs to have someone that's nice to them right? If I'm not nice then who will be?" I told him, walking over to the swings.
"That's weird." He said as he sat on the swing next to me.
"Boys, it's lunch time!" I heard our mom yell a few minutes later.
"Race you!" I yelled at Sammy as I jumped off of the swing and ran towards the house.
"You cheater! You left before me!" I heard him yell as I ran through the door and into the kitchen.
"You boys and your games." Mom said, shaking her head.
"What's for lunch mom?" Sammy asked as he ran in behind me.
"Peanut butter and jelly." She replied. "Do you want the crusts?"
"Yup." Sammy said.
"The crust is nasty." I said, causing mom to smile and shake her head at me. Don't get me wrong, the crust makes the bread look nice and all but it tastes terrible.
"I love you boys so much." Mom said as she stopped shaking her head and turned around to cut off my crust. She kissed our foreheads as she put our sandwiches in front of us.
"Thanks Mom, I love you too." I told her.
"Ya thanks, I love you too." Sammy repeated.
Suddenly I heard the front door open and slam shut. "Boys, go hide in your room!" Mom whispered, a look of fear in her eyes.
I knew what was happening. Dad was mad, and when he's mad he hits... things. Sammy and I got up and ran down the hallway to our room. I watched Sammy cover his ears and start to cry as the yelling started.
I took a deep breath before I walked over and wrapped my arms around him. "Everything is gonna be okay." I told him.
I stood up and walked over to the door and took a deep breath before turning the handle and pulling it open. I snuck down the hallway to find my mom kneeling on the kitchen floor, my dad's hand gripping her hair. I watched as my dad pulled out his hunting knife that he kept in a display in the living room.
"No!" I screamed and ran at him as he brought it to her throat. I slammed my body against him, catching him off guard and pushing him away from my mom.
He got up and walked towards me. "You're a bad boy and bad boys need to be punished." He said, gripping my hair and dragging me out of the kitchen as I screamed.
He threw me into a corner in our living room. "Sebastian!" I heard Sammy yell. I looked over to see him standing in the doorway before I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I could smell the scent of alcohol come from my father as he pulled the blade out before he shoved it back in again. I looked back over to Sammy and watched as he slid down the wall and cried in the opposite corner of the room. I looked back into my father's eyes before he drove the knife into my stomach with a final thrust of his arm.

Sammy
Present Day
I snuggled up to Aiden's chest as I opened my eyes. I groaned as he stood up and got off of the couch. "Lay back down you dick." I said, my eyes still closed.
"I still have to go to school." Aiden replied. I opened my eyes to find Aiden waking up Adam, Kim, and Lucy.
"But I don't want to stay here alone all day." I complained.
"Sorry but they said that I would get dropped if I missed any more." Aiden said with a sad smile before he bent down and kissed my forehead. "I'll be back in six hours." He said before he and the others walked out the door.
I sighed as I heard the door close behind them all. I reached over to the coffee table and grabbed my phone, checking the time. I threw my legs off the couch and stood up, instantly regretting it as a headache hit harder than one ever had.
"You'll probably want these." I heard someone say. I looked over to see Aiden's mom standing at my side holding a bottle of Asprin.
"Thanks." I muttered as I grabbed the bottle and walked into the kitchen. I grabbed a glass out of a cupboard and filled it with water before downing the pills. "Why do I even have a headache? I thought the doctor said I would be perfectly fine." I asked Aiden's mom as I walked back out to the living room and sat down on the couch, holding my head in my hands.
"You were in a coma honey. You're gonna have a headache or two afterwards." She said, sitting on the couch next to me. "I uh.. I wanted to thank you."
I looked over at her to see her looking away from me and towards the ground. "For what?" I asked.
"For protecting him... even when I couldn't." She said looking back at me, a look of regret on her face. I knew she was talking about the bridge and how I save Aiden, I just didn't see why she was thanking me.
"I.. I love him. You don't have to thank me for helping him." I told her. We sat in a awkward silence for a moment before she wrapped her arms around me.
"I know. He's gonna need you even more now." She said, pulling away from the hug.
"What do you mean?" I asked her.
"Well.. he was almost killed on the exact same bridge where his father ended his own life. He's gonna need someone. I'm glad that someone is you." She said with a smile as she patted.my leg before she got up and walked out the door, going to work and leaving me to think alone. I never even thought about how Aiden was feeling about the bridge situation. What kind of boyfriend am I?
