Living Out A Prophecy

Chapter 9

     Nao sighed as she thought about Sasuke. He had been a bit distant since meeting the Sand shinobi and has been training more.

     Nao shook her head to rid it of the thoughts that worried her and looked at the kids as they played at the park across from the store. She smiled softly and checked out of the store, not noticing the eyes watching her. She took her time walking on the road and looked up at the sky. It was then that she bumped into someone. Nao groaned as she got up from the ground.

     "I'm so sorry," she kept saying as she picked up her groceries. She had no idea who she had walked into until she finally looked up to find sea foam green eyes outlined in thick black. Her mouth was agape as her eyes traveled up to see bloody brownish-red hair then back down to the enchanting eyes that stared into hers with interest.

     "G-Gaara-san?" Nao asked, her voice a coming out as a small squeak.

     Gaara observed the girl. She was nervous, that was obvious as he watched her bite her lip. He crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes slightly as he got that same unusual feeling from before when they first met.

     She started to shuffle on her feet as he stared into her eyes, and she finally looked down. She muttered another quick apology and bowed to him then all but ran away. Gaara watched her as she disappeared. Right before she rounded the corner their eyes met one more time then she was gone from his sight. He let his arms fall to his sides and tilted his head slightly in thought when all of a sudden Kankurou dropped from the roof in front of him.

     "What is with that girl? Why isn't she scared of you?" Kankurou asked the redhead, a very confused look on his face.

     "Dunno..." Gaara mumbled as his eyes narrowed then disappeared to appear on a roof overlooking the road.

     He saw Nao walk down until she got to a house. Before she could put her hand on the door to open it the door opened on its own revealing the Uchiha boy.

     Gaara narrowed his eyes as he grabbed Nao's hand and led her inside. The unidentified emotion he felt intensified into something different and made him mad. The Uchiha boy was one he wanted to fight and gather info on, but he found himself instead tailing the girl. Gaara hummed in wonder and used his sand to teleport to his hotel. He had a meeting to attend.

     Gaara growled once more. He had taken to watching over Nao and the Uchiha boy during his sleepless nights. It was the third night he had done this act, and the third time he couldn't figure out why seeing the girl and Uchiha sleeping together made him mad. It made him especially mad that particular morning when he saw Sasuke put his hands on the small girl, though he couldn't place why. His heart died long ago and there was no idea in his head what the feeling could be.

     Nao didn't know what she had done. All she did was ask a simple question about Sasuke's brother. She wanted to know what he was like, but it set him off. One minute she was putting on a jacket and the next she was being pinned by Sasuke to the wall. His hands had a painful grip on her wrists as he held them above her head with his other hand gripping her chin making her look at him.

     "Never ask again," was all Sasuke hissed.

     Nao let the tears fall freely down her cheeks as she nodded the best she could. All of a sudden, he let her go, dropping her to the floor. Nao made herself into a small ball as Sasuke stormed out of the house to the training fields. It was this moment she just wanted her brothers to be back, but they hadn't returned from their mission yet.

     When Nao heard footsteps on the wooden floor of the bedroom she bolted up and pushed herself against the wall as she brought her knees into her chest. Her eyes widened when she found Gaara standing in front of her. She put her arms up as he put a hand out to her. She thought he was going to hurt her too, but it surprised her when Gaara gently put a hand on her head.
