THE FIRST WIZARDING WAR HELD DARK TIMES WITHIN. It seemed the sun wasn't as warm as it had once been, as though there was an air of gloominess around everywhere one went. People were living in fear everyday, scared it would be their last, scared they'd lose a loved one. The war showed the true colors of everyone. The weakest ones lost themselves. The strongest ones had hope. Hope of better days.
Sirius Black was on his last year of school when the war started. It changed the air in Hogwarts. When he graduated it didn't feel like at all what he had imagined because of the on going war. Sirius wanted to fight for his future. He wanted to fight for what was right. So, instead of going on a two-month partying bender after graduation like he had always dreamed, Sirius joined the Order Of The Phoenix. He was proud to be part of the secret society against the Dark Rebellion. He felt he was doing something important for the first time in his life.
However, the days serving the Order in midst of a war weren't easy. Sirius had assignments and he was forced to spend time apart from his three best friends, which were the only people he considered family. Sirius was lonely, empty and he had to hear news of his classmates dropping dead every week. Sirius found himself seeking comfort in the bottom of fine mulled Goblin wine every now and then when his ears received information that he couldn't wrap his head around sober. Several pints of beer on a cold March night after shocking and upsetting news was how Sirius ended up together for that one night only with a woman named Alicia Wood.
Unfortunately, Alicia got pregnant.
This came as bad news. Sirius and Alicia had no intention of staying connected any longer than that one, drunken, desperate night for some human connection. Alicia didn't want to keep the baby. She didn't want a reminder of that night she had been so emotionally disturbed she had to find comfort in man she didn't like.
Sirius was completely lost. He turned to the only person who knew him better than he did, James Potter. James listened to Sirius' worries. How Sirius was worried he wouldn't be a good father. How Sirius was scared he would ruin the baby's life and they'd end up hating him how he loathed his own parents. James told Sirius with a knowing look, "Mate, that baby isn't even born yet and you care this much. That's not the issue. Be honest to yourself. How do you feel?"
Sirius had been very hesitant as he said carefully, "I feel like they're missing my piece."
James started smiling, wrapping his arm around him. "You can do this, Padfoot! We can do this. You're allowed to be happy. I'll be there for you."
Sirius snickered, "What do you know about changing diapers?"
"In seven months, I'll know a lot." James said, looking at Sirius with a sneaky smile.
It took a couple seconds for the news to register for Sirius. His eyes widened.
"Lily? She's pregnant too?"
James nodded excitedly, waiting for Sirius to react. Sirius grabbed a hold of James' arms and began jumping up and down. The two young men finally seemed to get a mental break from the constant bad news of attacks, deaths and awareness of the dark war. In that moment, they were just happy.
