Chapter 33 - "Salute mi familia"

The next evening some of us sat down and talked after enjoying the dinner, Mia and I had cooked.

"How come you know all of these guys, like the only one here?" Gisele asked me curiously.

I chuckled and looked at the guys sitting in the sofas across us.

"That's a long story." I answered smiling.

"We got time." Han said smiling, before taking a sip of his beer.

Everyone looked at me, like they wanted me to tell the story.

"Hm. Okay." I chuckled nervously, before I took a deep breath.

"About 5 years ago in the summer, as I was only 19 years old, I went to Los Angeles on vacation.
It was my first day there and I was out looking for a cheaper place to live, as it suddenly started to rain. And it almost never rains there, in the summer." I chuckled.

"I took shelter in a shop where I noticed a very handsome man reading a newspaper in the back. Mia offered me something warm to drink and then drove me home, leaving me with an invitation to a street race. Suddenly I found myself fixing cars, racing and dating the boss." I laughed, looking over at Dom.

"Brian came in and ordered the same tuna sandwich at the shop, for three weeks and suddenly he was a part of our team as well." I said, making them all chuckle.

"A year after Dom left LA. I went to Miami, where I met Tej at a street race. Suddenly Brian showed up and we raced against each other." I started, but was interupted by Mia.

"Who won?" She asked smiling widely.

"I did." I laughed, making everyone mock Brian.

"I stayed a couple of days and got introduced to Rome. He and Brian were pulling off a job for the feds and I ended up saving their asses a couple of times." I continued smirking, making Rome scoff offended.

"Don't come and say you didn't have fun." Brian laughed.

"You got to kiss her, so of course, you had fun." Rome said sarcastically.

They all looked at Brian and I. Dom looked up from his papers, and stared at us.

"You and Jess kissed?" Mia asked shocked, turning a bit to look at Brian and then at me.

Dom looked furious.

"We had to." Brian started, looking to me, to explain the situation.

"They were running undercover as street racers to take down a drug dealer called Carter Verone. I stayed at Brian's boat to save some money on rent and in the morning Verone's men came to the boat looking for Monica, who was Verone's secretary and lover, but also an undercover agent. She came early in the morning to warn Brian, that Verone would kill him and Rome after they finished a job for him.

To save all of their asses, we made it look like Brian and I spend the night ." I quickly explained, making Dom's expression soften.

"You didn't have to make out like that." Roman said still offended, making us laugh.

"Come on, you have to let that go." Brian laughed.

"Roman Pearce, are you jealous?" I teased with a smirk, making them all laugh again.

"What happened after Miami?" Gisele asked.

"Well, I stayed in Miami for 3,5 years and worked in Tej's garage until I decided to go and look for Dom.

I tracked him down to The Dominican Republic, where I stranded near a small village because I couldn't get any gas. I met Rico on the street and it turned out that he was running with Dom. So he brought Dom and I together again, later that day." I said smiling at Rico and then at Dom.
