CHAPTER IX CLOSE !
JOHNNY FINISHES WRITING HIS PART OF THEgroup essay and sets his pencil down. He turns his head to look over at Patty and it seemed she was closer than he realized as their lips barely touch, causing the two to scoot back stuttering and blushing.
Johnny can feel his heart speed up and he clears his throat, "I-uh-finished with my part, you can write yours." He doesn't dare look at her, but he feels her eyes on him.
Patty slowly takes the paper and pencil, writing her own input for the essay. She looks over at Johnny who is fiddling with his hands and she sighs.
The two both jump at the sound of a door slamming, Patty stands up and rushes out of the dining romm, Johnny slowly following. He sees a tall man standing in the doorway.
"Dad, you're back early?" Patty says surprised, the man huffs and throws down a briefcase causing Patty to flinch as he lies down on the couch.
She slowly backs out of the room and back to the kitchen.
"Your dad?"
"Yeah," Patty says, "He's a lawyer, works long shifts."
Johnny nods his heart racing as their hands barely touch as they both sit down at the same time. He looks over at her, watching as she plays with her hair pushing it off her shoulders than back over her shoulders. She soon catches Johnny staring and the two never break eye contact until Patty leans forward and her lips push against his own roughly and inexperienced.
The kiss ended almost as quick as it happened the two blushing profusely at the contact.
"Sorry," Patty stutters as she gather her supplies, Johnny gathers his not sure of what to say.
"Uh-" He says, "It's-that was fine."
"Johnny dear would you like a ride home?" Mrs. Williamson asks and he shakes his head.
"I can walk," Johnny tells her and Mrs. Williamson nods leaving the two alone again.
Johnny grabs his backpack and heads to the door, Patty follows him.
"Are you sure you don't want a ride?" Patty asks opening the door for him and he nods.
"I'll be fine," He tells her, "You don't live too far away."
Johnny leans forward as if he was going to kiss her again, but stops himself, "Bye Patty."
"Bye," She replies.
Johnny mentally kicks himself for not kissing her again as he walks home. "Hey Johnny," Ponyboy greets as Johnny enters the Curtis household.
"I kissed her, she kissed me," Johnny stutters, "We kissed."
The gang all stare at him before Dallas smirks and pats Johnny on the back, "Good goin' man!"
"Who?" Steve asks him.
"Patty Williamson," Ponyboy says in a teasing tone, the boys soon joining in. Johnny blushes and he immediately regretting telling them as Sodapop and Two-Bit make kissy faces at him.
He rolls his eyes and sits beside Ponyboy as the boys slowly stop their teasing.
