CHAPTER X
TOGETHER !

THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL WAS BY
far Johnny's favorite day of the year, they did absolutely nothing in any of his classes except play childish games that some people got too into. Johnny's day got better as Patty stood by him at his locker, saying she was going to walk with him to English.

Johnny feared everything would be awkward after what had happened the day before but she continued a conversation like normal. Johnny noticed that her hair wasn't curled like it usually was and that she had put it up and out her face, which Johnny liked.

"Do you think we'll have to do anything in English?" Patty asks him, "My math teacher made us take a test."

Johnny shrugs unsure of what to say as he closes his locker after emptying everything into his bag.

"Maybe she'll yell at us over our project," Patty smiles and begins walking to English, Johnny follows after her. Their hands brush together with each step and Johnny slowly takes her hand into his, holding it. He looks over to see her staring at their intertwined hands and he immediately lets go and she frowns.

"You didn't-" Patty says, "You were fine." She holds his hand again and Johnny nods, smiling lightly.

"Hey Patty," Jenny says approaching the two, "Hi Johnny."

"Hi," Patty greets her friends, "What class are you headed to?"

"Skipping math," Jenny replies, "No way am I taking a test-"

"It won't count, grades should've already been sent in for reports," Patty tells her.

"So?" Jenny says, "I'm not doing math on last day."

Patty shrugs and Jenny looks over at Johnny winking at him and nodding her head towards their intertwined hands. Johnny blushes and looks away.

Patty lets go of his hand as they walk into English, taking her usual seat Johnny soon following after her.

The end of the day finally rolled around and Johnny couldn't be more thankful. He met with Patty outside, the two walking home together in silence. He held her hand, the two blushing like middle schoolers as they sneaked glances at one another.

Patty stopped, making Johnny stop also staring at her worriedly. She looks down the their hands and looks back up at Johnny, "So?"

"So," He says awkwardly.

"W-well are we together or-or," Patty stammers.

"I mean-" Johnny begins, "M-maybe. I-I guess? If you want to?"

"Uh-yeah," Patty says, "Yeah."

"Cool," Johnny says.

"Cool," Patty repeats and continues walking. A large smile etched upon the pairs face.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay for dinner?" Patty soon asks him.

"Yeah, I haven't been home for a while so I should make sure they haven't killed each other," Johnny tells her and she frowns.

"Okay," She says and hesitantly kisses him.

Johnny feels his heart race and has to resist doing a small dance right there as she pulls away and begins walking down her neighborhood. He watches her for a minute before turning and heading back to his side of town.

Johnny can hear yelling as he turns on his street and he winces as he approaches his house. He stares at the door where he could see his parents arguing and he slowly backs down the porch steps and makes his way to Two-Bits.
