Sunlight flooded the room as I struggled to stretch my legs over the edge of the bed. The luxurious hotel sheets were tangled around my body while Chris's head lie on my stomach making the extension difficult. Four condom wrappers, an empty bottle of Merlot, and a pile of clothing on the floor summarized our evening.
Chris had been thrilled with his present and was curious to read each wrapper. After hours of laughter and sexual amusement, we collapsed from exhaustion in the massive king-size bed.
"Good morning," he said sliding his head onto the pillow beside me.
"I think it might be afternoon," I corrected running my finger across the deep sleep lines on his cheek.
"I don't care what time it is. Last night was incredible."
It had been memorable and I wondered how many similar nights he had with Caroline. I imagined their evenings together filled with excitement and lust in her expensive condo downtown. She could afford more than salvaged condoms for entertainment.
"What did you do with Caroline?" I asked inquisitively.
Chris looked started by my candid question. "I'm not sure what you mean?"
"Sorry, I know you slept together, but wondered if she was better than me? What did you do for fun?"
He looked surprised and hesitated before responding. "Wow, I admire your bluntness! I'm not lying when I say it was pretty mundane in comparison to our time together. We had no emotional connection. I can't remember even laughing."
It was hard to believe someone as sophisticated as Caroline was boring, but it was reassuring.
"What was it like with that businessman from New York?" Chris asked.
I was caught off guard by his question and not sure how to respond. I loved the honesty we shared but was uncomfortable in responding with a truthful answer. My one-night stand with Brian had destroyed my life with Chris but over the past months and as much as I wanted to forget it, I was unable to.
"His name was Brian and it was the same. There was no emotion either; it was just sex."
Our one time together was emotionless, cold sex however sometimes I fantasized about it. There was something mysterious about the way he dominated the situation and controlled me with his touch. It was rough and raw, yet so satisfying reminding me of a romance novel.
"That makes me feel better," Chris said rolling to the edge of the bed and looking at the clock. "Time to get up. We have to get Cinderella a dress for the ball tomorrow."
I laughed at his comment. "I will probably feel like Cinderella with all of your rich friends. Are you sure you want to bring me?"
"I didn't mean it like that," he said kissing me on the nose. "Besides, you are perfect and I can't wait to show you off to my parent's snobby, rich friends. I'm going to jump in the shower quickly. Join me?"
I stretched my arms over my head and smiled. "I'll be right there."
The water turned on and I smiled as I heard him singing my favorite song. "I wouldn't have missed it for the world, wouldn't have missed loving you girl."
I shook my head as I walked to join him. "I thought you didn't like this song?" I questioned opening the glass shower door.
He smiled at me while continuing to lather his muscular body with soap. "Can't I change my mind? It started to grow on me, kinda like you."
I slapped his butt harder than intended, leaving a stinging vibration on my palm. Chris looked bewildered at my action; his eyes narrowed. "What's that for?"
