Chapter 20: Support from an Ex

Chapter 20:

While Steffy was sobbing in Carter's office, his ex Maya Avant was just walking by when she heard the sobs. Feeling a sense of concern, she went over to Carter's office & knocked on his door.

"Who is it?" asked Steffy. "It's Maya. May I come in?" asked Maya. Steffy then got up & opened the door.

Maya saw Steffy's red-rimmed eyes & was immediately worried. She had to find out what had happened.

"What's wrong, Steffy? Are you OK?" asked Maya. "Are you sure you want to hear this?" asked Steffy. Maya simply nodded. They then sat down on the brown leather couch.

Steffy explained all to Maya about Thomas & Dayzee and what was said in the confrontation. Maya couldn't help but feel sorry for Steffy. She knew what it was like to be judged so unfairly.

"Let me tell you something, sweetie," said Maya who now had her arm around Steffy's shoulders. "Dayzee says you're wasting your time with Carter, but I don't believe that. I feel that you & he are perfect for each other. When I was with him, I felt that he deserved someone so much better then me, & I'm so glad you & Carter found each other. He deserves to be happy, & so do you."

Steffy simply smiled. Maya was right. Carter did deserve to be happy, & Steffy was glad it was she who made him happy.

"Thank you for hearing me out, Maya," said Steffy. "You're welcome, Steffy," said a smiling Maya. The two women then embraced.

Steffy was glad that Maya believed in her & Carter.

After Maya left to meet Rick at their favorite restaurant for lunch, Carter came in. Steffy told him everything.

"Damn," muttered Carter. "I know. It's been so crazy," said Steffy. "Well, I'm glad you & Maya talked," said Carter. "I am too. She believes in us," said Steffy. Carter just smiled.

As he took her in his arms & held her close, Carter knew that he & Steffy were going to need each other.

Especially when something else came around.
