Chapter 16

* Evaline *

              My attacker gave me a glance and a look of apology before he fled the scene. Slipping away skillfully just as he had come, dodging all of the guards. I screamed in pain as my bones shifted in my body, trying to painfully re-arrange themselves. My dad and Maria ran to me first, Rebeccah, Michael, and Adam followed. My dad grabbed me, his eyes searching for the cause of the situation we were in.

But the noises from my body gave it away to everyone. People started backing up and my dad held me as I went through this newfound pain. Inhuman noises coming from my body, as it slowly changed it's form and anatomy. "My poor baby." My dad whispered sympathetically as he looked at me. I felt tears bursting at my eyes as I started to shape into my wolf. I could feel everyone watching me, the party had stopped.

"Shhhhh shhhhh baby your almost done." My dad cooed in my ear trying to get through to me over my cries. The pain was like nothing I've ever felt before, nothing like I expected. It feels as if all my bones are trying to break at the same time just to be re-arranged. Dad grabbed my arm and gave me some of his strength, putting me on the ground. He still held my body as I endured the pain of the shift, I heard my clothes tear and before I knew it I was near the end of my shift.

I felt myself position on all fours as my bones arranged themselves in the correct position. Pain. Pain. Pain. All I felt was pain. My cries kept coming with the pain until there was no more. Suddenly everything stopped and went black for a period of time. 5 minutes? 30? An hour? I didn't know how long. All I know is I sat there in the dark. I could not see at all and I could barely hear. Is this normal? I didn't know. Then finally the world came back to me, my eyes opened and I could hear everything. I could hear everything. I could see everything crystal clearly. I looked all around me seeing everyone around me looking at me as if I were a shiny new object of value. I looked at my dad, and he smiled widely at me.

Hello again. Are you okay? I heard an ever so familiar voice say in my head. I knew the voice, it was midnight. My wolf.

I think I'm okay but that was very painful. I respond, not that I really know how this communication works yet.

You know what they say, beauty is pain. Sometimes beauty requires pain as you humans say. I'm glad you're okay and I'm glad we can interact more for now you have shifted and opened up a link in your mind which you can communicate with me and wolves in the same pack or near you. And ohhhhhh our mate! Midnight explains and rambles a bit about mates and our mate. Obviously midnight was excited about our mind link and the mate part the most.

Eva, baby are you alright? I jumped a bit as dad's voice suddenly appeared in my head and I looked over seeing a giant black wolf in the place where my dad previously stood smiling at me. I looked around and then down noticing my dark grey paws.. this will take a bit of getting used to.

I'm alright dad. Wow... you're big! I said after noticing how my father's midnight black wolf figure hovered over mine. He was humongous! I slowly walked forward getting an urge to run.

Dad chuckled. Well that's just one of the perks of being an alpha. You're the biggest of them all the leader. I am your father and now your alpha. Never have I heard my dad speak with so much power before. I guess that comes with being the alpha as well.

Evaline you are so beautiful! You have your mothers eyes and a mix of your mother and father's fur! Maria's voice said suddenly and that's when I realized they had all shifted. I looked around and suddenly two brown wolfs came up to me and nuzzled my grey fur. One was a darker brown and had green eyes and one was a lighter brown with dark green blue eyes. I knew it was Michael and Rebeccah.
