Melanie sat motionless in the quiet kitchen, poking her fork in her eggs mindlessly. Everyone was still asleep, since it was only 6 o'clock, and the house almost seemed empty, as if she were completely alone. She brought the fork to her mouth, shoveling the food inside, chewed and then swallowed mechanically. She dropped the fork on the plate a grabbed her glass of water, washing down the remains.
"What are you doing awake?" A voice cut into the silence. Melanie didn't have to turn to know it was Wylde who shuffled into the kitchen, his hair ruffled on his head and eyes heavy with sleep.
"Elias came again." Melanie said hoarsely, looking up at him. Wylde paused, his hand in mid-grip of the refrigerator's handle.
Wylde didn't say anything, so she continued. "He's...trying to seduce me or something."
Wylde turned around and looked at Melanie oddly, then he found his way to the chair that sat parallel to her. "He's your cousin, you know that right?" Melanie nodded curtly. "Does he know that?"
She again nodded, adding: "That's how he addressed me, by cousin. It's probably just one of his sick games, trying to make me feel for him so I can't kill him."
"Smart." Was all Wylde said. "But disgusting." He added some time later as he slid his hands up his face and raked his fingers through his hair, but that did nothing for it. The strands just sprang back in place, making Melanie laugh. He looked at her and glared, but smiled as well.
"Hey, you don't look so hot either." He said, laughing.
"At least I've had a shower." Melanie said as she stood, taking the plate to the trash and scooping off the left over eggs, then she dropped the plate in the sink. Melanie turned, only to find Wylde standing before her with a look in her eye that made Melanie's skin ignite with tingles.
"You know, I do need a shower." He reached forward and wrapped a strand of her hair around his finger and the corners of his mouth tipped up in a smirk. "But I don't want to be lonely."
Melanie rolled her eyes and pushed passed him, leaving him hanging. "I'm pretty sure you're big enough to wash yourself." She said as she grabbed her glass and refilled it with the water dispenser in the fridge. "Besides, don't you think my dad will suspect something, and I'm pretty sure you don't want to get on an angel's bad side." Melanie smirked as she took a lengthy sip of water, never averting her mocking eyes from Wylde.
"You're such a tease, you know that?" He said huskily, laughing as he swiped his hand through his hair again. "But you do have a point." Wylde then strode forward, leaving a breezy kiss on her cheek as he added. "We should go talk to you dad about Elias and see what we can do." Melanie nodded and set down her water then walked behind him and to her father's room that was just behind the stairwell, which was yet, another hidden bedroom she had no clue existed. Sometime, she told herself, I need to search the whole house from bottom to top so I can know how many rooms this place has.
Wylde knocked a few times, then the door flew open to reveal Sam, who she knew just rolled out of bed, but looked as if he had been prepping himself for hours.
"Sam, we need to talk to you." Wylde said. Sam looked between Melanie and Wylde then turned, opening the entrance to allow them to enter.
"Good morning to you too." He gruffly said as they walked in, Melanie laughed, but she didn't say anything, neither did Wylde. They just stood there, looking at Sam. "What do you need to talk about?" He finally asked.
"Elias visited Melanie." Wylde said, mimicking his position. "And he's-"
"I knew this was going to happen." Sam said, cutting Wylde off with a heavy voice. "I knew that the bastard would send his son to do his dirty work." Sam cursed, then he turned to Melanie with narrowed eyes. "He didn't try anything, did he? It's not like that, is it?"
