Harry's P.O.V.

Charlene is in the hospital. The snake bit her, and it was venomous. Ron, Hermione and I have been to visit her, she hasn't woken up since the incident, and the whole school is talking about it.

I wrote a letter to her Mum, telling her what happened.

Malfoy is in big trouble for conjuring that snake, he's got detention all week. If you ask me, he deserves it.

Charlene's bed is surrounded by candy, cards and all that stuff.

Apparently my ability to speak parseltongue is rare.

Right now, Hermione, Ron and I are sitting around Charlene's bed, telling her about all our classes.

"You know there's no point in talking to her. She can't hear anything you're saying," said Madame Pomfrey.

"We know, but it's just not the same without her," I said.

We've got Quidditch tomorrow, I hope Charlene's awake so she can play. If not, we have a reserve, her name is Alicia Spinnet.

"Out now," said Madame Pomfrey.

"Do you have any idea when she will wake up?" Asked Hermione.

"No, the venom of a snake is very powerful. Especially the power of a magical snake," she told us. "I've tried to pump out the venom as best I can."

"Magical snake?" Questioned Hermione.

"If a snake is conjured from a wand, defiled with dark magic, or if it has had any sort of charm or enchainment put over it, it's magical," explained Madame Pomfrey. "Now, you three need to leave."

That night at dinner, everyone was still talking about the snake incident. Lockhart was rambling on about how he would have been able to get rid of the snake, but he was just too late. Professor McGonagall looked very disturbed by the whole thing.

I heard the familiar rustling sound above my head. Mail was here, an owl I recognised as Charlene's dropped a letter onto my lap. I gave him a chip from the table and it flew off.

Harry,

Thank you for telling me about what happened to Charlene. I thought the school would have told me, but I guess they're trying to keep it quiet. I went to school with Lucius. Draco sounds just like him. I can't believe he would dare say something like that to Hermione Granger! I hope he was punished. A little birdie at the Ministry told me that Lucius Malfoy told Marcus Flint that if he let Draco join the Quidditch team he would buy them all new brooms. I don't know what Charlene was thinking, hanging out with Draco Malfoy. She is always the type to see the good in people, even when they cannot see it themselves. Your mother had that quality too, Harry. We were best friends at Hogwarts. She still is my best friend. I see so much of my best friend in my daughter. She was an amazing woman, so was your father. Charlene's father was friends with your father, too. Your parents were good people, Harry. You are more like them than you think.

I need Charlene, I just need her. She's my best friend. I just feel so whole when she's with me.

"I'm going to the hospital wing," I told Hermione and Ron.

"But Madame Pomfrey said no," Hermione objected.

"I don't care right now," I told them.

I left the Great Hall and walked towards the hospital wing. That's when I heard it, I heard voices.
