June, 1996
It was up to me to pack up the house. I put most of the stuff in boxes to give away to charity shops. I kept a few of Mum's things and put all of my stuff in the moving truck that was headed to The Burrow. I was going to be staying in Ginny's room so a lot of my stuff was going to have to be kept in storage. I grabbed my purse after the moving truck drove off and went back into the empty house. I walked down the hallway, peering into the rooms, each one had so many memories. I hadn't spent much time in this house the past few years, but it's where I grew up and it means the world to me.
The last room downstairs was the laundry, and in the laundry was the cupboard with the door where we measured my height up until I was thirteen. I looked the door up and down, looking at how I grew every year was so bittersweet. I pulled off the door, there was no way I was leaving that behind. It wasn't too big, just the right size to floo with. I can't wait to learn to apparate this year, it's going to make my life so much easier.
I clutched on to my purse, picked up Ebony in her cage, held the old cupboard door in the other hand and headed into the fireplace.
For what felt like the millionth time in my life, I said 'The Burrow'. I felt the familiar whoosh as I was transported out of my fireplace and into another.
"Welcome home," Molly said with a warm smile. I couldn't help but let a smile take over my face as well. The Burrow always did feel like home.
"I love this, did you cut it?" Molly asked, noticing my new hair.
I nodded. "It's been long my whole life, I wanted a change. I mean everything else in my life is changing," I said.
"It looks gorgeous," Molly said.
I gave Molly a hug and she took all my stuff from me.
"It's okay, I can get this upstairs," I said as Molly let Ebony out of her cage to roam around.
"It's no problem dear, I was heading up there anyway. Listen, Ginny's in the kitchen with morning tea, I've baked some scones, and there's some fresh homemade jam and cream there as well," Molly told me.
"I can't say how much this means to me. How much you all mean to me," I told her.
Molly gave my hand a squeeze and we headed in separate directions.
"Ginny," I greeted, sitting down next to her.
She gave me a hug and passed me the scones, jam and cream.
"Where's everyone else?" I asked.
"They went out with dad. Do you wanna know what the bedroom situation is gonna be like?" Ginny asked, sounding excited.
"Sure," I said.
"Okay so, it's mostly staying the same. Fred and George have their room, Mum and Dad have theirs, Charlie, Bill and Percy have their room, but it's fine because they're rarely ever home at the same time, Ron has his room and you and Mia are moving into my room!" Ginny said.
"You seem excited to have roommates?" I questioned.
"I've always wanted a sister. You know I love my brothers, but sometimes I wish there was a girl around, and you guys are the closest thing to sisters I have," Ginny said.
"You know, I bet George will go sleep in Ron's room and Mia will go sleep with Fred," I said.
"Yep, Mum knows. She gave Fred and Mia the talk the other day, bit too late for that I'd say," Ginny added.
I snickered.
I finished eating and stood up. "Let's go organise the room," I said.
Ginny wiped her mouth with a serviette, nodded and we went upstairs.
