68| Educational Decree Number Sixty-Eight

Dumbledore's Army was in full swing. Two days after the meeting, we had our first meeting in the Room of Requirement.

"So, the basic defence spells are expelliarmus and protego," I announced. "Hermione."

Hermione stood up next to me and Harry to explain briefly what the spells did, we told her we didn't want this to feel like a lesson, but knowing Hermione she'd give her classic textbook answers.

"The Disarming Charm, the incantation being Expelliarmus, forces whatever an opponent is holding to fly out of their hand. It is common to see this used in order to make an opponent lose their item. The Shield Charm, the incantation being protego, is a charm that protects the caster with an invisible shield that reflects spells and blocks physical entities," Hermione said.

"I thought you weren't going to do it like that?" Ron asked, sounding kind of annoyed.

"I think it's good that she explains it like that, this way we'll have a proper understanding," Luna said.

"Thank you, Luna," Hermione said.

"So that's what we'll be doing today, I'll demonstrate the wand movements for these spells," Harry said.

Harry demonstrated the hand movements for both spells and then everyone got started.

"I bought this, I thought it might be good to have some music," George said, turning on a boombox.

"Where did you get a muggle boombox from?" Hermione asked.

"I've got my ways," George said. "What do you think?"

"I think it's a great idea," Hermione said with a smile.

A song came on, loud from the boombox.

Look in my eyes man you can't touch this
You know let me bust the funky lyrics you can't touch this

"What is this music playing?" Ginny asked.

"It's muggle music," Hermione said. 

"I don't mind it," Draco said, doing some lame dance moves along with the hip hop song.

I giggled.

"Hey Charlene, with the expelliarmus charm, do we rotate our hand once or twice?" Lavender asked me.

"Just once," I said, showing her the movement.

I looked around, everyone was chatting and seemed to be enjoying themselves while they practised the spells.

"It seems to be going well," Ron said, appearing behind me.

"It does," I replied with a smile.

Hermione was helping Neville and Seamus out and Harry was playing around with his patronus. We were going to teach that, but much further down the line. It's going to be really cool to see everyone's patronus.

"Wanna practise the spells on each other?" Luna asked.

"Sure," I said. "How about we play a little game, the first one to disarm the other one wins."

"Sounds fun!" Luna agreed.

"Nice. Ron, you're the judge," I ordered.

"Alright you two, four metres apart," Ron told us.

Luna and I moved back and Ron counted down from three.

"Three... two... one!" Ron announced.

"Expelliarmus!" I yelled, forcing Luna's wand out of her hand and catching it.

"Nice one, Charlene, I could use a bit of practice, can I practise on you?" She asked.

"Sure," I said, handing her back her wand.

"I'll use the tickling charm on you, and you use protego to stop me," I said.

"Let's do this," Luna said.

"Rictusempra," I said, pointing my wand at Luna.

"Protego!" Luna cried, stopping the spell from hitting her.

Luna smiled, and I smiled back at her.

"So, how's Quidditch?" Dean asked Harry and I.

"It's going good, we've got practise tonight," I said.

"Yeah, I can't wait to get out there, it feels like it's been ages since I played quidditch," Harry said.

"It does," I agreed.

"Who's the new captain?" Seamus asked.

"Angelina is, she's going to be amazing," I said.

"Is she still dating George? Or was it Fred?" Seamus asked. "Which one of them went out with her?"

"George did, Fred's dating Mia," I said.

"Oh," Seamus said.

"I think they just went to the ball together though," I said.

"I think they'd be a good couple," Dean said.

"Yeah, we should set them up," Seamus agreed.

After around a half-hour more of random chatter and practising spells, we decided to wrap it up, and it was just Harry, Ron, Hermione and I left in the room.

"Well, that went really well," I said.

"I'm glad we agreed to do this," Harry said.

Suddenly, we heard a banging on the wall outside the room.

"What the heck is that?" Ron questioned.

"Let's leave out the back and go have a look," Hermione said.

We dashed out the back of the room to see Filch hammering another educational decree onto the wall.

"Oh no," I said.

PROCLAMATION

Education Decree No 68

All student organisations are henceforth disbanded. Any student in noncompliance will be expelled.

"We have a rat," Ron said. "And I'll bet you my life savings it's Malfoy."

"Even if someone did rat us out, they can't find us in there," Hermione said. "They can't get proof of what we're doing."

"How do we know for sure that someone snitched?" Ron asked.

"They're putting up a rule about no student organisations, it's not just a coincidence that it goes up the same day we start ours," I said.

"I trust your judgement, Charlene, and if you think Malfoy is trustworthy then I trust him too, but that means it's someone else who snitched or we were overheard," Hermione said.

"Has the snitch charm taken effect on the signup sheet?" Harry question.

"No, I looked at it before we left the room," Hermione said. "Someone could have overheard us, we don't know for sure that anyone else that was in the pub that day didn't have connections with Umbridge or the ministry, which is why we needed to be so careful."

"We were careful, and we have been," Ron said. 

"I know, but what I'm saying is, you can never be too careful. Do you guys think that we should let everyone know about this?" Hermione asked.

"No. If we do have a rat, they'll know we're on to them," I said.

"That's right, I say we keep this quiet, we shouldn't even tell Mia and the twins," Hermione said.

"You don't think they had something to do with it, do you?" Ron asked.

"No, but we can't rule anyone out at this stage. This has to stay between us, agreed?" Hermione asked.

"Agreed," Harry, Ron and I responded.
