Chapter 27: Devious

There was a throbbing in my head. Was that a dream? Or did I somehow know Hakuyuu and Hakuren? But what happened afterwards? Why do I remember someone say promise? "T!" I turned towards the voice and saw Akira running towards me. Wait! Why was I in a cell? Why were my hands in cuffs? I turned towards Akira in confusion and he said, "T I'm so sorry! I tried to stop my uncle! Here I brought your staff." He handed me my staff through the bars. I took it and asked, "What happened? Where am I?" Akira looked at me concerned and said, "You should like yourself now" Huh? What did he mean? "Akira what are you talking about?"

Akira took a deep breath and said, "You acted weird after my uncle's men took you. You said things like 'are you sure you want to capture the woman carrying the King of Sindria's child?' and things like, 'I-no I mean the King of Sindria will arrive shortly, are you sure you want to be doing this?' T it was weird, it was like you were some kind of puppet muttering your master's words" I froze, could it be Sinbad? But I don't recall him ever using Zephyr on me... What's going on? Akira tapped me on the shoulders and said, "T there's no time, we have to get out. My uncle went away on some business and I used a spell to make all his men fall asleep. Now's our chance to go to where Aladdin is. I'll help you get out, but I can't come with you." I nodded my head and Akira used magic to get me out.

Once we were at the doors Akira said, "T, just be careful... A-although I like King Sinbad... I don't think you should trust him that much." I froze but quickly composed myself. I nodded my head and ruffled Akira's hair, "I'll be okay Akira, just make sure you take care of yourself once your uncle returns." I hugged him and used a magic carpet to reach the palace where Kouen was supposed to be.

To my surprise everyone was running around frantically. I stopped one of the guards. He widened his eyes and said, "It's you! You came once with Alibaba!" I nodded my head and said, "Do you know where Alibaba and Aladdin are? I came looking for them" The man looked down sadly and said, "You have not heard have you? Prince Alibaba passed away almost a month ago" I froze, the blood literally seemed to drain from me. "T?" The guard bowed to the figures that approached me from behind.

I turned around and found that it was Kouen and Aladdin that have arrived. My knees gave way and Aladdin came running. Tears stared to flow from my eyes, this can be happening! What happened? Aladdin tried to steady me, "T what's wrong!" I looked at him, but I no words came out. Kouen looked towards the guard and asked, "What happened?" The guard looked troubled and said, "She came looking for Lord Alibaba and Aladdin and I told her about what happened..." Kouen said tsk and turned to Aladdin and said, "Take her to a room." Aladdin did as he was told, but I was too in shock to even walk. Kouen looked angry and said, "Listen here brat, lots of things happened this month. A civil war has started in Kou because Hakuryuu killed Alibaba and declared himself the emperor." Before I could process what he said, Kouen lifted me over his shoulder. I widened my eyes and Aladdin ran up to him and said, "Uncle Kouen! Don't do that! It's not safe!" Kouen narrowed his eyes and said, "That kid won't die because I carried her this way." I widened my eyes, did he know? Kouen narrowed his eyes at me and I gulped.

Just then there was a commotion. Kouen put me down and sighed, "I guess they're here." Aladdin looked up and so did I. Sinbad was on a bird flying towards us with an army. I gasped, he's not here for me right?

Sinbad looked towards Kouen and said, "I do not wish to attack. If you promise to surrender I can guarantee the lives of your subordinates. I widened my eyes and turned to Kouen. He seemed mad, but he was not showing it. Just what was going on? I turned towards Sinbad again and there was a dark aura around him, but his face and manner was composed. Out of the corner of my eyes I saw someone cover his mouth and blend into the shadow... Who was that?
