Chapter Six

“The People you love become ghosts inside you and like this you keep them alive.”

It felt so real. I looked towards the sound, it was Noah. He was standing in front of me, and he looked beautiful as always with his short messy golden hair, and glowing blue eyes. I walked closer to him to get a better view of his eyes that seemed to hold so much depth and darkness, he was still wearing his beach clothes and I looked at his hands, they were spluttered with blood.

"You're al-alive?" I said not believing my own words.

He looked back at me with sadness seeping in his and said, “I’m not Lau. I came here to help; I am only a figment of imagination in your mind.”

I felt as if I were in a Sci-Fi movie. Of course he was lying, he is real! I tried to prove my point by punching in the chest, but my hand went straight through him as if I was punching nothing but air. He gave me a knowing look as he started walking around the room.

“I came here to tell you something.” He said seriously, “A very important message.”

He paced around the room, before standing right behind me while whispering, “Beware of what’s coming.” I could feel his cool breath brushing against my skin, and it sent shivers of delight down my spine. I longed for that feeling, but I knew I couldn’t have it.

I turned around to face, but I was met with nothing but air. I called out for his name, but I received only silence in response. I sat on the bed, trying to analyze what just happened, until my train of thought was interrupted by a huge noise coming from outside of the room. Maybe it was what Noah warned me from.

I hid myself inside of the closet and curled my body into a ball as I heard a familiar voice teasingly say, “Lauren… Come out, come out wherever you are. I know you’re here! There’s no point of hiding.”

I recognized the voice as Daniel’s, the guy who was going to hand me over to the hospital. I felt terrified by the thought of him being here, and I couldn’t contain my fright. My breaths were coming out in short puffs. I threw a jacket over myself, hoping that it would give me a good camouflage.

I could hear the heavy footsteps of Daniel’s as he came closer. I tried holding my heavy breaths, but the sound of my accelerating heartbeat was louder. I couldn’t hold my breath anymore as he got inside of the closet. He snatched the jacket off of my face and grinned wickedly.

“Aha!” He smugly exclaimed, “There you are! Miss me?”

I was intimidated and I couldn’t form any words. I felt weak, and vulnerable. He forcefully took me out of the closet and threw me on the bed. I was paralyzed, too numb to even move a finger. Fear was running in my veins, stopping me from doing anything.

Daniel looked angry. His blue eyes were shining with maliciousness as he pointed a silver pistol at me. I instinctively cowered away.

He looked at me straight in the eyes and mockingly said, “You thought you were done with me?”

I slowly shook my head no. “You pathetic little lunatic, there’s nowhere to run now. You will finally die and I could have my money.”

He stepped closer and I felt the cool metal of the pistol touch my skin. I internally shivered in fear. I revised what he had just said, and I realized that I could outsmart him, so I said, “The hospital wants me alive.”

A devilish smirk formed into his face and he took me by surprise as he started laughing maniacally.

“You think I work for the hospital? You actually thought that the hospital would give me fifty thousand pounds?” He asked, feigning disbelief, “No, honey, no. I work for somebody much more powerful and who has been waiting forever to see your head on a stick.”

After all the fear I felt for the thought of being handed back to the hospital, this new information made me terrified. I started weeping like a little baby.

“Who wants me dead?” I asked, “Who would want a crazy girl dead?”

He sarcastically put a hand on his chin and rubbed it, feigning thought before he said, “Hmm? Probably the whole world?”

I couldn’t believe his sarcasm. He was being sarcastic over the thought of me being dead. What did the person that wanted me dead have on me? I started to remember all the people I have ever known or been close to.

There’s Noah, mum, dad, Sandy, Luna… I couldn’t remember any more people. I felt as if a giant wall was blocking my train of thought.

"Tell me who is it?" I pleaded to which he responded by laughing, he was obviously not taking this quite seriously.

"You will know who it is at the right time." He said placing his hand on my head and patting me like a little pet of his. I started thinking about dying, how relieving it would be to die and leave all my fears behind, for if I die I would be reunited with Noah. The thought of him being next to me made me excited, so I said willingly, “Go on! Kill me!”

A devilish smirk formed onto his face before he threw the gun on the bed and said, “I’m not the one to kill you. She is.”
