"Come on!"
Karlie was on her driveway, sitting inside of a shiny red pick up truck. She honked again, prompting Taylor to jog toward the excited girl. When she got close, Karlie got out of her truck and grinned at Taylor. Taylor wasn't sure what they're going to do tonight, so she dressed comfortably in her loose denim shirt and stylish shredded jeans. Karlie looked great in her black tee and leather jacket. Karlie went around the pick up and opened the door for Taylor. Taylor smiled gratefully at Karlie's gallant move. Karlie held out her hand to help Taylor hopped into the truck.
"You got a truck?" Taylor said after Karlie was in the truck again.
"Of course! Do you think we, small town people, only go around on horses over here?"
Taylor rolled her eyes at Karlie's teasing. "No! Aren't you just a little too young to drive?"
Karlie held a finger as she smiled smugly. "That's another advantage of living in a small town. Nobody pays any attention about that here."
"Wow, that's pretty cool."
"Well, sort of. I actually stole my sister's pick up for tonight. So let's go before anyone notices!"
Karlie was grinning sheepishly as she confessed. Taylor just laughed and they went out of the farm yard, toward the deserted road to town center. At least, that was what Taylor thought where they were going. She furrowed her eyebrows as she realized that they were, in fact, going farther away from the town. Then she glanced quizzically at her friend.
"Where are we going, Kar?"
Karlie whistled along the song on the radio, taking her time. "It's a surprise."
Examining the sparse land before them, Taylor prodded again. "Are you going to kidnap then murder me in the middle of nowhere? Because this seems like the perfect place for it."
At that, Karlie laughed loudly. "Boy, you sure have an imaginative mind! Relax. It's going to be fine."
"Well, that's easy for you to say when you're the one behind the wheel," Taylor muttered under her breath.
"Are you always have to be in control?" Karlie asked amusedly, glancing briefly at the pouting girl. "Come on. Loosen up a little! Do you trust me?"
Taylor looked at Karlie's arched eyebrow and hers emerald green eyes. Then she gulped hard as she noticed how her heart jumped when their eyes met and held their gaze. Thankful for the insufficient street lights of the countryside road, Taylor just shifted her gaze toward the window to hide her blush.
"Of course I trust you."
"Atta girl," Karlie said, looking visibly satisfied and at ease.
They sang along the songs on the radio as they drove. The wind was blowing though their hair, sending them wild into different directions. Taylor was grinning the whole ride. She kept stealing glances towards the girl on the driver seat. Karlie held the wheel confidently with one arm and had her other arm stretched across Taylor's seat. It wasn't quite touching her, but it sent butterflies into her stomach nevertheless. She knew she wasn't supposed to feel this way about a friend who was also a girl. But only God's know how the hell she could turn this feelings off. After a while, Taylor noticed there were lights in the distance, a little farther away from their spot.
"Hey, Kar," Taylor shouted over the roar of blowing wind. "What's there?"
Karlie looked at Taylor's pointed finger, then gave her a sly smirk. "That's where we're going. And I'm going to need you to close your eyes now."
