After I knocked I heard a faint voice yelling out to the door in Russian, "Coming!". I inhaled sharply as I heard the voice. Mama. I heard footsteps inside gradually getting louder and louder. The door knob started to turn and my stomach twisted. When the door opened, a tall woman appeared. She stared at me frozen, studying me from top to bottom. Suddenly she leaps over embracing me in her arms. Pulling away, she looked at me with a slight tear in her eye smiling. "Welcome home".

Walking into the house I grew up in, I looked around taking in new and different aspects of the house while remembering the old. I took a deep breath as I was hit with several past memories speeding through like a slide show. Stepping through the all so familiar house and rooms, the only sound I could here were the creaking of the floor boards.

"Where is everyone?" I ask while still analysing every detail.
"Either at work or out with some friends.".
"How is everyone?"
"Fine, missing you." she paused. "Everyone is going to be so excited your home"
"I know. I missed everyone too."

"Mama! Guess who is here." She suddenly called out without warning. Coming into the room, Yeva, my grandmother, looked at me warily and then back at mama.
"I don't need to guess. I saw his arrival." She winked at me as I walked over wrapping my arms around her.

After walking up to my room I dropped my bags on my bed and looked around, analysing like I did downstairs. Everything was just as how I remembered it; just how I left it. Mama had left to get some groceries for a celebration dinner despite my protests. I'd just finished unpacking my bags when I heard the door open downstairs followed by a voice calling out. "Hey mama, I'm home!" Victoria's home! A smile spread across my face as an idea sprang into my head. Slowly and quietly, I snuck downstairs heading towards the noise that always followed her. Heading towards the kitchen, I saw a flicker of the dark hair that I knew all too well. I slowed my steps while sneaking up behind her as best I could. As soon as she was in arms reach I let my arms spring forward covering her eyes with my hands whispering "Guess who!".
She screamed as I slowly softened my arms allowing her to turn around.
"Dimka!" she yelled almost louder than her scream.
I smiled as she leaped, wrapping her arms around me similar to the way mama did. All of a sudden she started throwing me 100 questions at once.
"You're home! When did you get here? How long our you staying? Where is mum?"
"Slow down Vic. I got here about an hour ago and I'l be staying for a few weeks. Mama has just gone to the shops to get a few things." I managed to choke out while still tightly embraced in her arms. A brief wave of pain came over me as I was reminded of Rose. Viktoria reminded me of Rose in so many ways. Part of this was refreshing however I knew it was going to be hard at times.

"Do you know when everyone else will be arriving?"
"Soon I think. Karolina will be home soon and everyone else will be getting a lift with her."
I smiled. "Can I have my body back now?" I laughed.
Blushing slightly, she released her arms and continued getting out what she started to get out from the fridge originally.
"So how long is a few weeks?"
"three weeks. I originally planned to stay for a bit longer but considering recent event that occurred where I was working, I thought it wold be best if I cut my trip short." I switched to my serious tone and expression, keeping all emotions locked up and not letting a hint of the pain I was feeling seep through.
"oooh. Like what?" The tone of her voice suddenly became excited and curious. I looked at her giving her a look that told her this wasn't just some fun or gossip.
"Come on. You can't just say something like that and not expect me to be interested. You have to tell me. Yeah yeah, It isn't a joke and it's all serious but you can't not tell me now." She was really starting to remind me of Rose now.
"An attack." I pushed the painful memories back as they began to rise. "Strigoi got into the academy I was working at. The school is protected and safe again but the student and teachers are still fragile."
"The St. Vladimir attack?" She asked in shock. "You were there?"
"You've heard about it?"
"Who hasn't it? What happened? Was there really over fifty strigoi?" I gave her the look again. Silence fell between us.
I sighed. "I'll talk to you about it later." Her face lit up.
Although I know I don't want to relive the worst days of my life, I know Vik is mature enough to know the seriousness of what happened.

I looked at the time and as if on cue, a car pulled up in the drive away.
