Sometimes things don't get better
They just get numb
You think everything is alright
That everything finally settled
That the dust has cleared
No longer being brushed into your eyes to cover your tears
But just because no one is ripping at your heart
Or
Gripping your throat stopping the words that never wanted to come out
Just because you aren't sobbing in pain
Or crying out to God
Begging on your knees that you'd rather die
Then live to see another day
Just because your world isn't torn apart
Doesn't mean it's better
Doesn't mean you won
Doesn't mean you can finally say you got to a good place.
It means that you finally just were able to successfully ignore your own life and everyone else's falling apart
Crushing the last thing that felt pain
Wiping it out so you no longer feel anything
It means that your still breaking
That someone has torn your heart so much that
It can't even bleed
That someone was finally able to permanently stop any sound that rose to the occasion in your throat
It means that things aren't better
You just forgot what better was.
