no one is going to see this coming but I am rooting for Diana and Justin really

"I have to ask you a question," I barely had the time to take off my jacket properly before Diana was by my side, looking at me with a worried and distrust look. I gave her my approval and she instantly started talking, "Did you see Rachel at your office today?"

My mind went blank. I tried to open my mouth and deny her proposal but it was impossible for me to think ahead of what to say. I had no idea how or why she had found out but my first instinct was that Rachel lied to me. Diana did set me up for this and now she was going to confront me about the mistrust I've shown that I have in her.

"Uh," I didn't know whether or not to answer truthfully but I figured the truth always comes out somehow. "Yes, I did."

Diana frowned. "Why? What did she tell you?"

I couldn't help but clear my throat, rethinking for the hundredth time what to say next. I had to choose my words wisely. She was either trying to see if I would tell her about the meeting I had with her assistant or she actually didn't know anything about it. So I chose to ask her the smartest thing I came up with before I could go any further, "How did you know about this?"

"Your manager-"

"Scooter?" I asked, interrupting her before she could even finish her sentence. It was rude but my fists were suddenly clenching and the angriness grew inside of me. I knew now that she hadn't been behind all of this, it was not a plan of hers to set me up but my own manager had gone to her with this. The same manager that told me keeping Diana was good publicity. "Why would he do that?"

"He mentioned it. He said he thought I knew. I want to know why." Diana seemed somewhat uneasy on the topic. I could understand why. If someone told me my assistant and my girlfriend had been seeing each other behind my back I would react the same way. I had to see it from her perspective. "Please don't lie to me. I've had enough of that."

I shook my head and came up with a conclusion immediately, "I asked her for a little favour that day I came to your office, remember?"

She didn't buy it but instead seemed extremely suspicious. "What favour?"

"I can't exactly tell you." I had multiple reasons why I didn't want to tell her but it was mainly because I didn't want to lie to her. This way, I wasn't lying but avoiding the entire truth. I was keeping parts to myself and I could easily convince her that she had nothing to worry about. "She's helping me with a little thing, surprise thing."

"To me?" It was like everything in her world changed and her opinions on the meeting changed colours. Suddenly, Diana was lighting up like and seemed incredibly happy. It only made me realise I had to come up with some kind of surprise to give to her later so she would not get suspicious. "That's so romantic, I'm sorry I asked."

I laughed, trying to make it sound as real as possible. "I understand, I would have asked too."

She didn't seem to notice the fakeness in my laughter which I thanked God for. The least thing I needed right now was for her to get suspicious about this and start snooping around. I know that if Diana would get any suspicious thoughts about this again, she would not ask me that time. She would look for answers by herself. I would get in trouble.

I even texted Rachel, which number I had now received, to be extra careful. We already had Diana's eyes on us, she already knew. I couldn't help but curse Scooter in my head over and over again. I was certainly going to speak to him later, I knew for sure that he was not about to get away with this.
