Everything Changes

Chapter 1:

Katie Atwood

As much as I'd love to get up, I can't bring myself to it. It's Friday! I should be happy! Beginning tests are over, Homecoming is tonight, of course im on court, and I get to watch my boyfriend tear up the field! I look over to see what time it is, "6:28". I only have to go to school for a half- an hour today because I'm on court so I don't really think its that bad. I picked my bestfriend Andrea to come with me to help me get ready. I started to daze back to sleep but my phone started to ring. It was Andrea. "This should be important because you woke me up. Haha" I laughed. "You need me to pick you up today?" she asked. "No Adam is picking me up. Thanks tho! I'll see you at school!" I said. "okay! See ya!" She replied. As we hung up, I started to get ready. I pulled my hair up into a bun, slid into my favorite jeans, slipped into my vans, put my Harrison football sweatshirt on, raced downstairs to say goodbye to my parents, and met Adam outside. Adam was leaning against his car to make it look like he's been waiting forever. He was wearing his favorite sneakers, his "kiss me I'm Irish" T-Shirt, and had his leather jacket hung over his shoulder. Adam reminded me of my brother jarred. Adam is my bestfriend, and I can't lose him because everytime I look at him I see jarred, and I can't lose him too. "Are you ready?" He smirked. "Ready whenever you are!" I said as I returned his smile. We got in and drove to school jamming to our favorite band, Green Day.

We reached the parking lot of the high school and got out. As usual I give him a hug, thank him for the ride and walk to class. As I was walking up the stairs to 1st period, I ran into some guy. When I looked up, I realized it wasn't just any guy. It's was my boyfriend. Harrison High School's star football and baseball player, Thomas Beckmann. Today he was wearing his varsity jock jacket, his favorite shirt that had his favorite quote on it, he wore his converses, his favorite blue jeans, and his fluffy,soft hair was loose today. Every girl looked at him with sparkling eyes and cried when he talked to them. He always turned them down because, well he had me. And I'm so lucky to have him. I got out of the daze of his good looks and heard him start to talk. "Hey Babe!" he said ecstatically. "Hey, sorry I didn't see you there." I smiled. " You're alright. So, Are you headed to 1st period?" "Yeah and I can't get a tardy, so I have to get going." "Okay, I'll see you when we get out early. I love you Katie." He smiled, and his blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight. " I love you too Thomas." I said. Before I could start to walk again he kissed me on the forehead and let me go.

The ride back to my house when we got called out early was crazy! I was driving and singing along to Black Veil Brides with my bestfriend. We were technically screaming. When we reached my house, we ran upstairs so we could get started on my hair. I thought Andrea was kinda mad I won, but she was happy she passed out. Haha! And I was so happy I won with my boyfriend. After Andrea and I were finishing each others hair she helped me get my dress on. When I was all ready, we left to go to the assembly. After the assembly was over the big game started. We won against Carlson high school, 78-23. It was the biggest win of the season! And I was so excited for Thomas. When he got all cleaned up, he escorted me to the dance, and it was the best night of my life. Until Adam came up to me when I was alone and asked to dance with me. Considering he was one of my best friends I said yes. Big mistake.. "Get your hands off of her! She's my girlfriend not yours!" It was Thomas. He was so mad you could actually see his face red under the glow of the disco ball. "I just wanted a dance with her! She's my friend too." Adam said softly. "Well if you don't step away right now, you're gonna regret ever doing this." He spoke lowly. " No." Adam demanded. Thomas went to punch his but got me instead. I walked out of the gym into the hallway to get away from him. But then I hear him running to get me. I took my heels off and booked it outside and down the street. I'm suprised I could run for this long! I started to speed up but heard his voice behind me. "Katie stop! Please! Let me talk. For once please!" he screamed.

I stopped and turned around to see him in front of me. He wasn't mad anymore. He was sad. He also had a black eye. He said he let Adam hit him for what he did to me. " You punched me!" I screamed. " I know. I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hit you! I love you Katie! Forgive me! Please!..." I started to walk away, but turned back. I'm only doing this because I love him... And he's most of my life. He's the only one the really cares beside Andrea and Adam. I started to walk away again but turned back again. But this time I tripped and fell into the road.. "KATIE!! No!" he started to run toward me. "I'm okay!" I yelled back. I started to get up, and out of the corner of my eye I saw headlights... Oh god.. It was coming faster than I could run. Thomas was running to try and push me out of the way but once he got to the end of the sidewalk it was too late... BOOM! There I lay, broken and bleeding in the middle of the road. I heard Thomas yelling and calling 911. A few seconds later he knelt down and laid my head on his knees. Not caring that blood was getting on his suit. 4 minutes later I heard sirens, and then I remember getting into the ambulance and Thomas kept repeating "I'm so sorry, this was all my fault!". Then, my mind went blank. I fell back and my eyes closed shut. Please,God don't let me die.
