TORI
I haven't spoken to Tony since Steve and I signed the Accords. After what he did, no one can blame me. Because of him my dreams are now haunted by nightmares of straightjackets and asylums. Steve and I eventually shared what our dreams were about, after much persuasion from me. After a long day of packing up the apartment he would wake up in a cold sweat, causing me to drift away from my horrible sleep. I feel bad but actually touched that his was about me dying, that being his worst fear. He just embraced me when I slowly told him what Wanda showed me.
But that was weeks ago, maybe even a month now.
We're in the new house now, finally getting settled in. Now that we're off the government's wanted list, we can finally live in peace until we're eventually called in for a mission. For now, we just unpack and get used to the new place.
"Right there," Steve grunts from behind me, shifting the new sofas once more until they're finally where he likes them.
I glance behind me, gripping onto the ladder that I stand on. "Looks good. I just need to add some greenery to that coffee table."
"Please don't kill another plant. You don't have the greenest of thumbs," Steve remarks, running a hand through his hair.
"Now how would I do that?" I ask him with a smirk, turning back the face the wall. Hanging up pictures is some job, even with only a few black and white paintings. You have to align them perfectly, not bump them on your way down, and make sure that they're not crooked while you're on the floor. These were the last few things we need to do, so the house is mostly finished.
I hop down from the ladder, staring up at the photos. They're straight and aligned perfectly after all. I feel an arm snake around my waist, causing my cheeks to burn a soft pink.
"So this is our first house," Steve muses, setting his chin on the top of my head. "And we're engaged. God, we're becoming more normal by the second."
I scoff, leaning against his tall form. "Yeah, finally. It took long enough."
He plants a kiss on my hair, returning back to work. I smile and set a hand on my hip. He takes a sip of his water and sets it back on the dining area table, glancing back at me with a grin. "Enjoying the view?"
"Uh-huh," I reply, still gawking.
He laughs, looking down at the floor. "Now stop drooling and let's get back to work."
"There really isn't any," I remind him.
"Well then, I'm going to take a quick shower," he says, striding towards the hallway. He turns on the back of his heel to face me again, pointing his finger at me. "Behave until I get back."
I give him a swift salute. "Can do, Captain."
As soon as he disappears into the hallway and into our bedroom, his footsteps echoing into our bathroom, I bolt up the stairs, almost tripping over my own feet. I speed into one of the spare bedrooms, sitting on the bed. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I begin to scroll through my contacts. Tony's name catches my eye, bringing me to a halt. Guilt comes over me for a moment, but I quickly scroll back to Natasha's name. I decide to call and not text, so I bring the phone up to my ear and listen to it ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Nat," I smile.
"Tori! How's it going there?" she asks, her voice enthusiastic.
"Good, good," I reply. "We finally finished everything and Steve's in the shower. I kinda wanted to screw with him. Lend me a hand?"
"Gladly," she says, and I can sense her sneering. "On my way."
