STEVE
I wake up with Tori curled up beside me and my hand placed gingerly on her stomach. I shyly smile at myself, shaking my head at my absentminded actions. I turn my head to kiss the top of Tori's head before climbing out of bed. Before I can get too far, however, a hand seizes my wrist and I'm dragged back. I smile as Tori snuggles back into me, holding on to my shirt. I hold her close to me, resting my cheek on her head.
I only have today to be with her until I have to leave tomorrow for the mission, so I'm not wasting a single second with her.
"What time is it?" she asks me groggily.
I turn to glance at the clock, groaning once I see the time. "Nine."
"I made an appointment at eleven, so we'll have to be at the office before then," she sighs, rubbing her eyes.
I raise an eyebrow in confusion, but then I remember. Butterflies flutter in my stomach as a larger smile spreads across my lips. "Oh, yeah, about.....that."
My wife scoffs, shaking her head at me. "You act like it wasn't expected."
"I-I'm not saying it wasn't, it's just that I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around it."
Tori's smile fades, and she looks off into the distance.
"Something is wrong, I can sense it," I mumble.
"A-Are you okay with it?" she asks. "I mean, it's not definite that I am pregnant yet, but I took three tests that all came out positive. A-A-And what if it's too soon? W-We just got married and—"
I press my lips on hers, getting her to be quiet. "I wouldn't change it for the world," I whisper. "W-We're most likely having a baby, Tori, a family. I'd never ask for anything different."
She sighs, sinking into my embrace. After a few moments of just enjoying each other's company, we finally decide to get up and get dressed. I just throw on a black t-shirt and jeans and Tori comes out in a gray one. She runs her fingers through her hair as she comes out of the bathroom after putting on some makeup.
I still don't understand why she feels the need to put on makeup when we leave the house. She is perfect either way, but I just despise makeup. She is just so beautiful without it, so I don't understand why she adorns it when she doesn't need it.
"You almost ready?" I ask her.
She laughs nervously. "Sure."
I just wrap my arms around her, burying my face in her hair. She laughs in surprise, hugging me back.
"I love you so much," I whisper.
She giggles. "I love you too, husband. Now we have to go." She opens her mouth to continue speaking, but I cut her off.
"I'm driving."
Tori rolls her eyes, getting into the passenger seat of my car. While I drive, I glance at her. I can't help but smile every time that I do, and it makes her blush. She plays with her hands nervously, trying to pay attention to something other than the appointment. However, it's the opposite for me. That is all I can think about. I hear her start to breath irregularly, like she does when she is extremely nervous.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," I tell her, taking her hand in mine.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," she says through breaths.
"No, you're not. You only do that when you're about to have a panic attack," I say, my voice quavering. "Listen to me. It's gonna be okay."
"I know." She gulps, exhaling a heavy sigh. "I shouldn't be worried."
"Promise that you won't freak out there," I beg. "Promise me."
Based on her pained facial expression, I can tell that she knows I'm going to panic if she does, meaning now. "I promise," she whispers. "But that means that you can't faint or do anything to freak me out."
I laugh softly. "Definitely no promises on that."
She punches my shoulder, making me laugh harder. Hopefully this shouldn't be too hard.

"Mrs. Rogers, can you lift your shirt up for me please? This is going to be a little cold," the doctor says.
Tori lays on the table inside of the room we were assigned to, her eyes widening at what the lady asked. She obviously didn't really think about how we were going to see if she was pregnant, so she hesitantly and questionably lifts her shirt up as the doctor puts a gel on it. She clenches her jaw once it hits her skin, surprised for a moment.
I stand next to my wife on the opposite side of the table near the wall. I just stare down at the floor, trying to calm myself. Tori clearly senses that, but she doesn't interfere, which is the smart choice. It's better for me to just stay inside my head until the results come in. I jolt out of my thoughts when the lights go out and a screen lights up on the wall.
It's all black and white, showing the ultrasound. I stare at it with wide eyes, trying to comprehend what it's presenting to us. Tori seems to be confused as well, leaving the doctor to explain it for both of us.
The doctor smiles, pointing to a small light dot on the screen. "Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. You have one bun in the oven."
Almost breaking my promise, I begin to feel lightheaded. I fight for consciousness, and thank god I win. I sigh of relief as Tori just laughs at my reaction.
"It seems like you're about six weeks in," the doc continues. Everything after that just blurs together. That's all I needed to know.
We're really having a baby.
Not long after, Tori and I are stepping out of the office with another appointment scheduled for the future. I can't keep the grin off my face. Tori just shakes her head at my giddiness, giggling at my every action.
"Your face when she said only one," she chuckles as we drive back home. "You were so relieved."
"God, I would've most definitely fainted if we were having more than one," I shudder, not able to even imagine the thought. "Tony would throw a fit."
"God forbid," Tori laughs. "Poor thing would have heart attack."
I let out a low laugh, thinking if that were to have happened. "I'm good with just one though. I would be happy either way, but still."
"Hey, you have the easy part, Rogers," she teases.
A grin spreads across my lips. "True, Rogers."
"Damn, force of habit," she mutters.
"So you're forgetting that we're married and you took my name?"
"Shut up."
I smirk for the rest of the ride home, annoying my wife the whole way there.
