BECKETT
After rehearsal was over, I sluggishly moped out to my car. Just as I was reaching in my pocket for my keys, I heard a shrill and whiny voice call my name in the distance.
"Beck!" Gabrielle shouted across the parking lot. I glanced behind me to see her sashaying towards me as she tried not to fall in her unnecessarily high wedges. I groaned and kept walking towards my car. "Beckett!"
"What do you want, Gabrielle?" I sighed exasperatedly. Truth be told, I didn't really care about what she had to say but I knew I would never hear the end of it if I ignored her.
"I was just wondering if you wanted to run lines together," she batted her eyelashes.
"You don't have any lines," I reminded her, continuing my trek to my car.
"Beckett, wait!" she chased after me, almost twisting her ankle in her heels jogging on the uneven gravel parking lot. "Listen, I'm sorry for what happened between us. I do care about you. A lot."
I scoffed at her statement. "Well you should've proved that when you still had the chance."
"Is there any way I can make it up to you?" she looked up at me through her fake eyelashes. She bit her lip and trailed her hand down my chest. Her hand stopped just above my belt.
"I don't think so," I swatted her hand away. I unlocked my vehicle and opened the door. "I gotta go." I slid into the driver's seat and put the key in the ignition before pulling out of the lot and speeding away. I saw Gabrielle pouting in my rearview mirror. I shook my head and continued driving home.
When I pulled up in the driveway, the front door swung open and Sadie ran out to greet me.
"Hey Cutie, how was your day?" I asked her after I climbed out of the car. She ignored me and dragged me inside. In the foyer, I saw my parents all dressed up. "What's the occasion?"
"No occasion. Just a surprise date night," dad shrugged.
"We should be back no later than midnight," my mom kissed mine and Sadie's cheeks before strutting out the front door with her husband in tow. "You two have fun!" And with that, Sadie and I were alone.
"What do you wanna do? You wanna go outside?" I questioned my sister. She nodded and bolted for the back door. I trailed behind and opened the door for her. Dashing off the patio and sprinting to the swing set, Sadie took off and demanded I push her on the swing. I laughed at the bossy little girl but ultimately followed her instructions.
"Brubby, how do you know if you're in love?" Sadie asked me out of the blue.
I was baffled by her question. "Sadie, you're six," I reminded her.
"I know but I wanna know."
"And why is that?" I took a seat on the swing adjacent to hers.
"Because I think you're in love with Piper," she dragged out the 'o' in love.
I scoffed at her accusation. "Where'd you get that idea?" She shrugged and glanced down at her dangling feet. "Listen, Sadie. Just because I'm friends with a girl doesn't mean I'm in love with them."
"Does that mean you guys aren't going to get married?" she pouted.
"Not now, no, but maybe someday we will."
"I want you guys to get married now," she folded her arms over her chest and puffed out her cheeks.
I hopped off of my swing and stood in front of hers. I got down to eye level, "well I'm sorry Cutie but that's not gonna happen anytime soon."
