PIPER

It was Thursday, the day before the school pep rally, and I was getting my hair dyed after school. I had already talked with Mrs. Raylen about missing today's rehearsal and she said that it was perfectly fine. I was pretty anxious about the whole situation of changing my hair color.

The final bell rang and students rushed out of the classroom and to the parking lot. I gathered my belongings and packed them in my bag. I took my time going to my car to avoid the chaos and the traffic. By the time I arrived at my vehicle, the crowd had dissipated. I opened the back driver's side door and tossed my backpack in. I climbed in the driver's seat and put my key in the ignition. I pulled out of my spot and began my drive to the hair salon.

About 15 minutes later, I had pulled up to the building. I felt my stomach churn as I shut off my car. I was really about to do this. I was terrified of everything that could possibly go wrong. What if it came out the a horrendous shade of red? What if I don't look good as a redhead?

Pushing away all of the negative thoughts, I got out of my car and entered the salon. "Hi, I'm Piper. I made an appointment with Whitney," I spoke to the receptionist at the desk.

"Hold on just a minute, she'll be right out," she kindly smiled. I thanked her and took a seat in the waiting area and texted my mom, letting her know where I was.

"Hi, I'm Whitney. You must be Piper." I looked up and saw a bubbly blonde woman with vibrant green eyes standing in front of me. She extended her hand out for me to shake and I returned the favor.

"It's nice to meet you," I smiled.

"So is this your first time dying your hair?" she surveyed and I nodded. "Don't be nervous, I'll make you look even more beautiful than you already are." Whitney led me over to her station and began working on my hair.

"So is there any special occasion?" she wondered.

"Um I'm playing Ariel in my school's musical and my director wanted me to have red hair," I explained and she nodded in understanding.

"I think a darker red will look really great with your eyes," she studied my face. "You ready to get to work?" I hesitantly nodded and Whitney clapped with joy. "Great! Let's do it!"

Three hours later, Whitney had finished my hair. She refused to let me see it while she was working on it since she wanted it to be a surprise.

"You look absolutely stunning," Whitney smiled widely. "Whoever plays Prince Eric is super duper lucky."

I blushed at her comment. What would Beckett think about my hair? Would he like it? I shook these thoughts of Beckett from my mind and focused back on Whitney.

"You ready to see your new hair?" she gushed excitedly.

I took a deep breath, "as ready as I'll ever be." Whitney spun me around in the chair so I was facing the mirror. I was shocked by what I saw staring back at me. "Holy shit," I gasped running my fingers through my now dark copper hair.

"Do you love it?" she anxiously awaited my response.

Speechless, I nodded eagerly. "I love it so much! You did an amazing job, thank you so much." I hugged her tightly.

"No problem, you look stunning."

My face turned a bright shade of red in response to her comment. "So how much is it?" I dug through my bag for my wallet.

"Don't worry about it, it's on the house. But I want a ticket for the show," she winked. I laughed at her bargain and agreed to get her one. She handed me her business card and told me to call if I needed anything. I tucked the card away in my wallet and thanked her once again. I went out to my car and started it up. Catching a glimpse of myself in the rearview mirror, I couldn't help but smile at my reflection. I actually loved the red and it made my eyes look brighter. I backed out of the parking space and drove home.
