BECKETT

Since I left Piper's house a few hours ago, I had been wracking my brain for the perfect date idea. I wanted my first official date with Piper to be amazing, especially since it's been such a struggle just to get to this point. Plus with the show only five days away, I was completely losing it.

"What about roller skating?" Zach suggested, trying to help me figure out what to do with Piper tonight.

I shook my head and ran my fingers through my hair in frustration, "Piper does half of the show on skates, so I don't think she wants to go on a date in them."

"How about a night in? Or you could have a moonlit picnic or something," Gavin offered.

"Wait, I think you're onto something, Gav." That's what I would do. I'd prepare a picnic with her favorite foods and take her somewhere peaceful. "Thank you."

Zach and Gavin chatted while I scrambled to prepare the food for the picnic. I also texted Piper to let her know that I was gonna pick her up around 6:30. Luckily for me, I still had an hour and a half to get ready for my date.

Once the picnic was ready, I left my friends in the kitchen while I took a quick shower and got dressed. I was feeling extremely nervous; I desperately wanted this date to go well.

"How do I look?" I asked my friends when I went back downstairs.

They nodded and gave me a thumbs-up, wishing me luck before heading out. I looked at my watch - 6:17.

I double-checked that I had everything packed for the picnic before checking my appearance in the mirror. I sprayed myself with some cologne that I knew Piper liked before grabbing everything I needed and going out to the car.

I hid the picnic basket and blankets in the trunk so that Piper wouldn't see them before hiking up her driveway. I knocked on her door a few minutes before 6:30 and was met by her father.

"Hey Beckett, what can I do for you?" he smiled politely.

"Hi Mr. Jennings, I'm here to pick up Piper for our date," I spoke up nervously.

His smile brightened as he welcomed me inside. "Come on in, she should be ready shortly." I thanked him and followed him into the living room. He took a seat in his recliner while I sat on the couch where Piper and I had our mini-makeout session just hours earlier.

"So are you excited for the show?" her father questioned.

I nodded, "I'm definitely nervous, but I know it's gonna be great and I'm just ready to perform for an audience."

"This is a lot different than playing on the soccer field I bet," he let out a hearty laugh.

"Absolutely," I chuckled, "but it's invigorating and exciting. Gives me a feeling that soccer never did."

Our conversation was cut short when were heard footsteps coming down the stairs.

"Bryce, you don't have to come to every single show," Piper rolled her eyes as she put on her shoes. "Yeah, I get you're my best friend and you wanna be supportive but there's no need to see the show five times. Ok, listen I gotta go but we can talk about this later. Love you too, bye."

"Sorry about that," she apologized to no one in particular. "You know how Bryce can be. Also, I'm sorry to keep you waiting, Bryce called and I lost track of time."

"It's fine, your dad and I were just talking. You ready to go?" I asked, offering my hand.

She nodded, "I sure am. I'll see you later, Dad," she quickly kissed his cheek.
