BECKETT
"Baby you light up my world like nobody else! The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed! And when you smile at the ground, it ain't hard to tell you don't know oh oh, you don't know you're beautiful!" Piper and my sister sang along loudly to the popular song.
I secretly whipped out my phone and recorded some of their song, adding it to my snapchat story with the caption: broadway's next stars.
"Come on Brubby!" my sister urged again, tugging my hand to get me to sing along.
Giving in to her demands, I pushed myself up from the couch. We danced around the living room, giggling happily. The three of us were having so much fun that we didn't notice when Piper's mom came home.
"Having fun?" she yelled over the music, catching our attention.
Piper went and paused the music. "Oh hey Mom. Sorry about that." Mrs. Jennings didn't say anything; she just smirked before going up to her bedroom.
"That was awkward," Piper giggled. "Are you guys staying for dinner?"
"Nope, not tonight but thank you for the offer. Speaking of which," I glanced at the time on my phone, "we should probably head home." Sadie pouted at the idea of leaving. "We can have another party with Piper soon, okay?" My sister reluctantly nodded. Piper hugged the distraught girl in front of her, whispering something in her ear which made her grin from ear to ear.
Piper walked the two of us out and stood on the porch as we left. Her and I shared an embrace before I took Sadie's hand and walked her across the yard to our house.
"What did Piper tell you?" I asked my sister as I unlocked the front door. Sadie shook her head and pretended to zip her lips, refusing to tell me what was said before skipping inside the house.
Throughout dinner and the rest of the night, I pondered what Piper could have possibly said. I raked over different ideas in my head before eventually tiring myself out. As I headed to bed, I decided that I would just ask her about it tomorrow at school.

The rain pattered against the roof as thunder cracked loudly in the distance. The empty house shook and lightning brightly flashed outside the living room window. My parents had left me alone at home while they took Sadie for a doctor appointment. I was enjoying whatever action movie that I had flipped to when there was a sudden pounding on the door. Warily, I stood up from my spot on the couch and slowly approached the front door.
As I neared, I saw the outline of a person but I couldn't make out who it was. The person knocked again, more desperately this time. By now, I could tell who it was and opened the door.
"Piper, what are you doing? It's pouring outside." I pulled inside my warm house. She hadn't said anything to me and that's when I noticed the tears that were leaking from her eyes. I instantly knew something was wrong but decided to wait and get her some dry clothes.
I gently grabbed her small hand and led her upstairs to my room. She stood still in the doorway while I rummaged through my drawers for some sweatpants and a t-shirt for her to wear. I handed her the pile of clothes and let her know that I was going to get her a towel for her wet hair before exiting the room so she could change.
