BECKETT
Piper and I went back into the building after our moment in her car. Just before we went in the auditorium, I lightly gripped her arm. "You're wonderful, okay? Go in there and kick some ass." She smiled and nodded.
When we got inside, our director shuffled over to us to see if everything was okay. She told us that we were working on dances individually for the day before disappearing to help other actors.
"So what dance should we do first?" I asked Piper after we got warmed up.
"Let's work on One Step Closer first," she responded, heading for the hallway.
Once we found a quiet spot to rehearse in the hallway near the cafeteria, I pulled the instrumental up on my phone and sat it down. I said my lines the preceded the song and took Piper's hands for the dance. I sang as we went through the choreography, running the scene as if we were up on stage.
The two of us were so into the moment that we didn't notice Mrs. Raylen and our choreographer, Krista Weber, watching from one of the tables. It wasn't until the song had ended and they began clapping that Piper and I were snapped out of trances.
"You two never cease to amaze me," Krista grinned, a bright gleam in her eyes. "The chemistry between you is so unique and natural. It's simply amazing."
"Thank you," both Piper and I blushed at her comments.
For the first time since she came out here, Mrs. Raylen spoke up. "The reason we came out here was because we wanted to quickly run through Beyond My Wildest Dreams and give notes with all of you."
With that, the four of us returned to the auditorium and Piper and I went on stage. Everybody took their places and got ready for the song the start. When the first note played from the booth, Piper came out on stage, a look of awe etched on her face.
"Oh, just look! It's like I'm in a storybook. Oh, it's bliss! I'd dreamed that it would be somewhat but not like this." Piper sang the intro before skipping across the stage, interacting with the props and set pieces as she did so.
Others went out and joined in when it was their turn before going back to the wings once their part had finished. Four girls went out and portrayed maids in the castle. Carlotta entered and delivered her lines in the song before exiting right after. The rest of the maids completed the rest of their scene and followed after Carlotta.
Soon it was my turn to walk out with Caleb, who was playing Grimsby. We stood on one side of the stage while Piper stood on the opposite side. The two of us pretended to be deep in conversation.
"Look! It's him!" Piper turned towards Caleb and I, a dreamy look in her eyes. "So handsome and refined and slim. Sweet, sincere, magnificent from head to toe. And oh!"
She looked out at the audience and finished the remainder of the song, doing an occasional turn here and there. "Just look at me and you will see someone beyond their wildest dreams!" She belted out the final note.
"That was wonderful!" Mrs. Raylen praised, motioning us to join her downstage. "Just a few notes for you guys. Maids, make sure to be extra bratty. You guys are upset because this girl who can't even speak is stealing the guy you've always wanted. Piper, make your reaction to Eric even bigger. But other than that, it was great." She finished giving notes before dismissing us for the night.
