"Watch me, Bramblepaw!" Thistlekit squealed, dropping into a hunter's crouch. He was excited to have his older brother watching the skills he practiced for moons. Bramblepaw nodded and sat down, watching closely. Bumblekit had her back to him, facing a butterfly that was on the floor.
He stalked closely, his small tail only lightly brushing the floor. He stopped, wiggling his haunches when she was only a tail length away from him. He gave his best leap using his sharp claws to latch onto his littermate's back.
"Ouch!" She squealed, "Your hurting me, Thistlekit!" Thistlekit hopped off, Bramblepaw giving him a nod of approval for his battle move. He turned around in surprise when Bumblekit wailed. a couple drops of blood dripped from her brown fur.
He lowered his head in guilt instantly. Once again, he had forgotten how sharp his claws are. Goldenflower, their mother, came sprinting over immediately. She sniffed her and raised her head towards the medicine den.
"Runningnose! Bumblekit's hurt." She called, and almost instantly the grey and white tom came padding over. "Thistlekit, what did I tell you about using your claws on your littermates?" His mother snapped, making him feel worse.
"I didn't mean to hurt her." He whispered, his tail drooping. She constantly had to remind him about how sharp his claws were. He was only trying to practice his battle moves for when he became apprentice soon.
"Only one more moon. Then I can train with Bramblepaw." He muttered to himself. He squeezed inside the nursery and curled into a tight ball. He could hear cats talking about him through the brambles of the nursery.
"Will he always be this aggressive?"
"He hurt his own littermate!"
"Stop talking about him like he's done something bad! He was trying to practice his battle moves for when he was apprenticed. Haven't any of you done that before?" Bramblepaw stood up for him.
He felt proud of his older brother. He always stood up for whats right, even to Tigerstar, their father. A paw prodded him in the ribs. When he opened his eyes, he saw the small brown shape of Eaglekit.
"Are you alright? I saw what happened." Thistlekit felt anger rise in his throat. He didn't need the be checked up on when he wasn't the one hurt.
"Go check on Bumblekit, not me. I'm fine." He snapped, burrowing as deep as he could in the moss. Eaglekit looked hurt, but padded out the den. Before he knew it, he was asleep.
"Move!" Bumblekit hissed at Crowkit, Eaglekit's littermate. Crowkit and Bumblekit both liked to curl up in between Ashfoot and Goldenflower, but they were too big to do it together like they used to.
"Fine!" He snapped, padding over to curl up with his littermate. Thistlekit stood up and arched his back in a luxurious stretch before padding out of the nursery. Dawn seemed to have already passed, since the sun was high in the sky. He grabbed himself a mouse and saw Yellowfang padding back with Cinderpaw from the tunnel entrance. Cinderpaw looked extremely happy, and Yellowfang as grumpy as usual.
"Cinderpaw!" He squealed and bounced over to her. He wanted to know about where she had gone and how it was. He was asleep when she had left.
"It's Cinderpelt, now. I got my full medicine cat name!" He purred his congratulations to her, returning to his mouse after she finished describing the trip there and back. He couldn't wait to become an apprentice. Bramblepaw would teach him all the battle moves he learned and share a den with him.
By now, the sun had risen high in the sky and warriors were waking up to do their duties. Tigerstar was assigning border patrols, Blackfoot with hunting.
