*3 Hours Later*
It's silent. Neither of us speaks up. I don't know if he even plans to let me stay with him. I'm scared he's gonna make me leave. I barely know what's going on. How am I suppose to protect myself if he kicks me to the curb?
"What's the plan? Are we a team now or are you gonna make me-" He cuts me off.
"We're gonna stick together. I'm not cruel. Stop worrying." I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding. When I look out the window I see a bunch of the... things eating someone. I don't know who the person is, but I start crying. Issac looks over and pats my shoulder.
"You'll get use to it. Trust me." I keep crying.
"How could you possibly get use to this? They're eating people. People who have families, a job, a future-" He cuts me off again.
"These things can't help it. They're crazy and hungry. There's nothing we can do about it. So If I were you I'd stop worrying." My sobs stop and the tears lessen. I could never get use to this. I don't think I could even kill one of these things.
"Crap." I hear Issac say.
"What?" He hits the steering wheel.
"Outa' gas." Oh no.
"What now?" He shakes his head and opens his door.
"Now we walk. Maybe we'll find another car." I gasp.
"Walk! Are you crazy? They'll kill us!" He shrugs and grabs a bag, filling it with water, food, and ammo. He's serious isn't he.
"Do you still have your gun?"
"Yep."
"Then let's go. We need to stay low and If we see a group of them, stay quiet. Don't freak." I nod and we start walking.
I'm nervous and I can feel my hands shaking. I hope I don't run into one of the things. I don't know if I'd be able to move or shoot them.
"Where are we?" I ask.
"Beats me. All I know is we're in a crowded place and there might be a lot of freaks. So keep an eye out." He's so serious. I guess he has the right to be.
I hear a bang to my right and turn to look, holding my gun up, ready to fire. Issac does the same. He slowly walks toward where the noise cam from and pulls back a sheet. He lowers his gun and motions for me to come over there. What I saw is something I can't un-see. Tears fall down my cheeks and I quietly sob. A baby was bit. It had a huge bite Mark on its stomach and it... it was alive. Thrashing around, trying to get food. Issac looks at me and looks back at the baby.
"We can't leave it like this..." I say. He nods.
"Turn around and cover your ears." I do as he says and know what's gonna happen. I hear a faint shot and squeeze my eyes shut tighter. Issac puts his hand on my back. I'm guessing it's his way of saying I can open my eyes now. He looks sad, but covers it up by setting his lips in a thin line.
"It's over." I shake my head.
"We should keep walking." I suggest. He follows my lead and we start walking again.
The sun starts setting and it feels like my legs could give out any second. Issac and I barricade a house we found and hide upstairs. We take shifts and thankfully he goes first. I lay down and look at the ceiling.
"I can't believe it. Yesterday was perfect. I graduated yesterday, I spent time with friends and..." I sniffle. "I was with David."
"I'm sorry. Where I lived this thing started late last week. My family went on a road trip a week ago and they were suppose to be back the day before all of this happened. I think... I think this thing started earlier than we thought. Maybe my parents got caught up in it." I look over at him and can't help but to feel sorry. He waited for his parents, but they were never coming home. I grab his hand and close my eyes. For a second I have an image in my head of a little boy waiting for his parents, but they never show. He's heartbroken. I nod at him and he nods back, almost like we understand each other in this moment.
