I feel someone poking my shoulder. David does this if he wants to wake me up. I smile and open my eyes. I don't see David. I see Issac. My heart drops and I sit up.
"How long was I asleep?" I ask while stretching my back and arms.
"Maybe two hours. I'm sorry to wake you, but I can't keep my eyes open any longer." I look at him and his eyes are red. I don't think he's slept since this thing started.
"Okay. Get some sleep. I'll take watch." He nods his head and leans back against the wall, putting his hands behind his head. Seconds later I hear small snores escape from his mouth and know he's asleep.
I get to my feet and walk over to the window. The sun's creeping over the horizon. I'm guessing when he wakes we're gonna have to move on. I wish we could stay here. I mean, it seems safe enough, but deep down inside I know it's not. No where's safe anymore, or at least that's what Issac says.
I walk around the room we're in and try to look for a book or paper and pencil to keep me occupied for the next couple of hours. Luckily I find a notebook and pen. I go and sit down, sketching random things without even thinking. The room gets lighter and when I look down at my drawing I see a baby, happy and smiling, with a bunch of those things around it, causing trouble. I rip the page out and tear it into a million pieces.
I hear something move, but when I look over its just Issac turning over onto his stomach. Now the sun is up. I start to pack our things quietly, not wanting to wake him, and leave out two packets of crackers. When I'm done the room looks like it did before we came. There's no trace of us left. Which is good I guess.
"Linda?" I hear Issac say.
"Over here." I say while snooping through drawers. I'm looking for some clothes that'll actually fit me. I open the last drawer and find a simple black t- shirt and some skinny jeans. Thank goodness. I grab the clothes and walk over to the closet to change.
"What are you doing?"
"Changing." When I'm done I step out and fold Isaac' s clothes back up neatly and place them in his bag.
"How long did I sleep?" He says and rubs his eyes.
"About 2 hours." He groans.
"I already packed our stuff and left you a packet of crackers to eat."
"Thanks, but I would've done that." He sits up and grabs his packet and tears it open. I follow his lead and do the same.
"We need to leave when we're done." I knew he would say that.
"I know. That's why I did all the packing while you were asleep. It would speed things up." I finish off my last cracker and throw the packet behind my back. He finished his before me.
"So what's the plan for today?" I ask.
"To find a car and drive as far away as possible." He seems a bit unsure of his answer.
I prod him for more information. "What about after that? We can't drive for forever."
He sighs and rubs his eyes. "I'm just making this up as we go."
"I kind of figured that." He chuckles.
It goes silent again, but the silence isn't that awkward. After a few minutes of enjoying the quiet, I get to my feet and sling one of the bags over my shoulder. He does the same. We open the door slowly, with our guns in our hands, ready to fire at any moment. The house is clear. We walk to the front door and I take a deep breath. Time to go back out there. Time to risk our lives. Again.
