"Can you give me Emma's number?" Regina asked Zelena once she arrived home from taking Allison to school.
"Excuse me?" Zelena asked raising her eyebrow.
"Emma's number, would you mind giving it to me?"
"I would actually, why do you want it anyway?" she asked taking a sip of her drink.
"I wanted to text her and ask if she wanted me to pick Alli later," Regina answered her sister who laughed at her making her frown.
"Emma has been taken care of her daughter since she was born, she does not need your help, Regina. Besides, I am the one who picks Allison from school most days, so don't worry," Zelena said walking away from her sister.
Since Emma had Allison it was Zelena who stayed during the night at the bar, while Emma normally covered the daytime shift. It wasn't as if they had a lot to do, they just watched over their employers and ordered what was missing. In the beginning, Zelena and Emma did everything pretty much by themselves. Emma's grandmother would watch over little Allison when Emma couldn't, however, as the years passed Emma realised she didn't want to miss on her daughter's milestones, so when they saw that The Wicked Swan was starting to have success, they decided to hire some people to help. It was an unspoken rule between Emma and Zelena that Regina was not to be mentioned. Of course, Emma knew she existed, and of course she knew that not speaking of her would not change that. To be honest with herself, it wasn't as if Emma wanted to forget Regina, she simply wished that things between them had had a different outcome. Growing up Emma had developed a crush on Regina, and although she did never act on it - mostly because she feared to be rejected and ruined the friendship the two of them had - she was happy. She was happy because she got to spend her days with the second most important person in her life, being her grandmother the first. However, everything changed the day Danielle moved into town. She was the kind of girl everyone wanted to be around, the popular girl who only a select few got to be around and Regina, being Regina, got to be the selected few. At first, Emma didn't really mind it that much, she knew Regina liked to be the centre of attention, she liked the spotlight, but Regina soon started to avoid her, she started to cancel plans so she could be with Danielle and finally she hit Emma where it hurt the most. She went straight to Emma's biggest fear, being treated differently, being shamed because of her gift. And that was eleven years ago. During those years, although for totally different reasons, neither made an effort to contact the other. On her side, Emma was just too hurt, too broken and too scared. On the other side, Regina was selfish and didn't realise the repercussions of her actions. Danielle also made sure that Regina was oblivious to any Emma related matter, from the moment she had laid eyes on the former two best friends she had been jealous, she saw them around the school and realised she wanted someone to be like that with her, she wanted Regina to be like that with her. Over time, Regina grew and became more aware of what was going on around herself, in spite of that she never did have the courage to reach out to Emma and apologise, try and make things right again, like they used to be.
"Hey, monkey," Zelena greeted her goddaughter when she picked her up from school.
"Aunt Z! Are we going back to your parents' place? Is Gina going to be there?" the young girl asked excitedly.
"No, little one. We are going to walk to the bar today. You're staying there with me and mommy for awhile and then you're going home," Zelena answered grabbing Allison's hand while they started their journey towards the bar.
"When can I see your sister again?" Allison asked taking Zelena by surprise.
"We'll have to talk to your mother about that," she said back after awhile. Allison nodded and proceeded to tell her godmother about her day in school. When they got to the bar, Allison ran to her mother and jumped into her arms.
"Mommy, when can I see Gina again?" She asked before anything else.
"Hello princess, my day was great thank you for asking. How was yours?" Emma asked making her daughter roll her eyes.
"My day was good. We learned about animals in school today. So, when can I see Gina?"
"And why do you want to see her?"
"Because she's fun!" Allison said excitedly.
"What about me? Am I not fun?" Emma asked trying to distract her daughter from her current question."
"You are! But I liked her. You can hang with me and Regina as well mommy, you just need to ask," Allison said as if it was completely obvious.
"I'll think about that," Emma said sitting on a table with Allison and giving her a sandwich, "I need to ask you something, okay?" She asked and when Allison nodded she continued, "yesterday when you asked about grandma... How did you know?"
"I talk to Grandma, she told me that I had to be there for you because she couldn't now, but she would always be there for the both of us and she would talk to you when you were ready," she said with a shrug.
"I'm ready now, can't you tell her that?" Emma asked hopefully.
"Nope, she said that when it was time she would appear. She hasn't appeared so it's not the time," Allison said and kept eating her sandwich while her mother slouched down on her sit.
